No Advents or JBL but did have Cerwin Vegas's AT-10's with teac cassette and Marantz 2265B reciever. I'm still trying to forget the CV speakers  I remember replacing them with Paradigm SE 9's I though it was such an improvement!! My Son still has ...

Best songs to test speakers
I saw Ian Anderson' ,Jetho Trull in concert in 1973 and performing Thick as  Brick! If you can find it, the jazz CD The Wonderful World of Three Blind Mice. Very well produced and will give any speaker system a good workout
Your first system and your journey...
My first audio system that I could call my own consisted of a Marantz 2265B, Technics cassette player and Cerwin Vega speakersI was living the dream!  Man those speakers were pretty hard on the ears
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
Did any one mension, your ears  I'm no spring chicken and before I would spend crazy money on cables and power cords etc, I'd get my ears checked. As you might not hear that much difference. I did have mine checked, not bad for my age, but not lik...
Is there a such too much power for speakers?
I was using my VAC PA 80 80 set in triode mode putting out 35 watts per side. My pre amp is the ARC LS15  They were driving my speakers that have built in powered sub woofers. I have on order a pair of Maggie's 0.7 speakers. I decided to buy a use...

Do I need a sub?
My main speakers have built in powered subs that will go down to 20 hz and I still have an additional separate servo power sub.and it adds fill and energy to the room. Requires a little work to integrate, but worth it.
Life is too short to buy someone else's favorite stereo gear
Well I'm a frugal Canadian and just purchased a used Spectron Magical MK ll hybrid class D amp ( weighs 45 lbs) to drive my new Maggie's 0.7 speakers that will arrive this Friday. In the meantime I've been using the Spectron to drive my DT Mythos ...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
If I was buying used CD player I'd really consider The Oppo BD 105 which has decent internal DAC If go you the new route, the Audiolab cdt is excellant, but it's a transport only and was primarily designed to work with the Audiolab 6000n streamer,...

Which combination of components (Streamer, DAC, Preamp, Amp, etc.) are most future-proof?
@hilde45 I was also concerned about the AUDIOLAB 6000N had no display at first.  But even if it did i would more than likely have to get out of my chair and go have a look at the display. Now where did I put my glasses??  I would use my smart phon...
Which combination of components (Streamer, DAC, Preamp, Amp, etc.) are most future-proof?
@kren006 That's what I thought, and very feature based for the money and uses DTS play-fi. I won't be using it's internal DAC though, as I have a nice external DACI'm actually going to send it to my audio dealer friend that only sells top shelf eq...
Which combination of components (Streamer, DAC, Preamp, Amp, etc.) are most future-proof?
In my case I still have my tube amp and tube pre amp that I bought in the mid nineties and have no plans to change them. I certainly have changed speakers over the years. But recently I decided on a good quality external DAC which is the Exogal Co...
