Why are CD's decling in quality?
I actually have not experienced what you describe ... I have CDs from 1986 (the first year I purchased CDs that look and play like they did the day I bought them. The only issue I have had with skipping on first play seems related to the transport...
Single Ended vs Balanced output with SE converter
If I recall in the Stereophile review of this and other Ayre players they claim a SIGNIFICANT sound quality difference between the SE and balanced outputs (balanced being better) BUT you would need to have a true balanced preamp/integrated amp to ...
Best sounding and reliable CD changer?
not sure there are many (any) being made any longer so PARTS may be an issue for any of these machines should you need service.the HIGHEST END unit I ever saw was the Nakamichi Dragon changer ... BEAUTIFUL but doubt they are supported any longer a...
Have Good DAC, Will This Work A Transport?
using the Sony as a transport only it will NOT play SACD ... you would have to use the internal DAC on the Sony when playing SACDso you would connect a digital output to the Bryston AND the analog outs to a preamp analog input and use that source ...
Good value for money speaker cables around $200
people are going to want to know the model of your speakers and amps ... you can also check with the speaker manufacturer and see what cable is used internallyJeff
choose a DAC to complete my system
what are you using as a DAC now for the PC?? if you are just running it direct from the PC soundcard to your preamp almost ANYTHING would sound better. also if your PC is a secondary source (meaning the Oppo is your main choice) I would spend no w...
small speakers for small room
maybe the Totem Arro ... can be placed close to the wall ... is a floorstanding speaker but smaller than most monitors on stands
Want to replace RED Dragon amps with stereo amp
Bel Canto also has a nice integrated amp
Investing in a SCD777ES with a DAC
I do not think Sony makes the transport for the SCD777ES any longer so if it breaks you would be out of luck!
Help me decide, please
I would probably choose the Claytons ... my feeling is they are the most refined of the amps you have listed. Not familiar with the Tylers though and synergy with speakers is the key so it is possible one of the other amps may work even better wit...
Speakers that can be placed close to the back wall
I really liked the Jordan JX92 based wide baffle transmission line speakers when placed close to the wall (I owned a commercial model the Konus Audio Essence) but there are plenty of DIY plans out there if you have the skills or wish to have a pai...
In search of a new integrated
If you MUST have a new integrated, the Sonus Faber Musica may be to your liking. Obviously it was voiced with SF speakers in mind. If remote control is a must it will not suit you though.Jeff
Integrated amp with dac - opinions?
try to find one with multiple digital inputs and is preferably upgradable (firm ware upgrades, software upgrades, hot swappable boards) as technology changes. I would probably not purchase anything that did not include a USB input at this point in...
Budget High effeciency speakers
I would look for a pair of Klipsch Forte I or Forte II ... perfect for a vintage/nostalgia system. Another good one (and this speaker I own) is the Epicure 20+. Awesome in a vintage set-up, semi omni directional so no "sweet spot, deep bass, smoot...
Best Speakers for Nearfield Listening $4k or Less?
I liked Earthworks Sigma monitors when I heard them several years ago in a nearfield set-up. They are "studio monitors" so they were designed for that purpose and the drivers are physically time aligned. More expensive though than the KEF's mentio...
