Cheap/expensive or expensive/cheap?
I’ve tried 3 different Power cables with Pass Labs x150.8 and the xa25. To my ears the stock Labs PC delivers. Not by leaps and bounds. Though best with what I have available. The stock PC powers the amp. As for the other components of PC I use TW...
Most organic / real / analogue sounding DAC (ideally with Volume Control) for $1500??????
Went From Bel Canto 1.7 to 2.7 to Schitt Yggdrasil. The Yggdrasil as mentioned does not have a volume control, and I honestly believe you need a warm/non clinical power amp and tube line stage to have all work in unison. I’d go used on the dacs. I...
Recommendations for power amp placement/dampening
Thanks slaw. Will do
Recommendations for power amp placement/dampening
I find it hard to fathom too drop 500 used for hockey pucks. Yes imo PC and IC makes sense. Isolation for tube pre or amp. I’d agree. Though SS amp. The jury is out imo. Though going to a local shop - in no way will hinder the situation once all h...
Recommendations for power amp placement/dampening
I hear ya. Though if I personally spoke to someone directly at Pass and they stated specifically for the xa25 it holds no merit. Maybe they are onto something. The ear is quite subjective. Additionally I’m looking at two weeks for break in.
Who, do you think, designs the best looking tube-based devices?
I really like the design of Audio Research top tier line stage & amp. Additionally LTA. Can’t recall the name of the pre that is used to test for Devore Speakers though it looks brutal in a flattering way. Everything else mentioned prior. I ag...
Recommendations for power amp placement/dampening
Thanks all with various opinions and recommendations regarding amp isolation etc. I spoke to two very reputable people in the industry. Both stated that granite or a block of wood more than does the job specifically for the xa25. I’m going to take...
Recommendations for power amp placement/dampening
Thanks all for the advice so far. To get a better perspective I’ll be receiving a pass labs xa25 shortly. About 50 pounds. My carpet is wall to wall. Thin office grade.
best-sounding class D amp?
To OP,I personally own the bel canto ref 500 S. I love the tight bass and sub low frequencies they present great micro detail. Though it’s a really picky amp imo. I went through two different tube pre amps, and tried about 4 different power cords....
Monster Regret!!
Your mileage may vary, though I was using a power conditioner, I decided to purchase a good power strip, just surge protection. That’s it. - hospital grade. I plugged my amp straight into the wall. The rest into the strip. I immediately noticed a ...
Guest suddenly takes it upon herself to move my speakers
Completely out of line. Regardless of sex or sexual background. I do not know if I would have lost my cool. Or handled the situation casually. I toohad beer cans put on my speakers And a drunken idiot sit on my subwoofer. I did indeed scream that ...
I am frustrated with the sound from my DAC
I’m quite content with Schiitt Yggdrasil. Very warm detailed sound. I especially like the fact that you can upgrade it when new hardware becomes available. Prior dac was not R2R. Run it with a tube pre amp and Wow!!!best luckJ
3 great tube preamps. Which would you purchase?
Correct. It’s a safe bet that the Herron pre phono stage can be left on 24/7I would call Keith Herron just to confirm- to play it on the safe side.
3 great tube preamps. Which would you purchase?
@jsautterThank you for mentioning the LTA pre. It was on my list. The Herron 360 and the LTA pre are probably two of the best pre amps on the market at their price point. Down the road I’ll be able to audition the LTA. At the same time all is subj...

@bdp24 I would definitely consider his phono stage though atm, I’ll be saving up for quite a while,  Meanwhile I’ll peruse equipment like we all do. Though my top priority is to sit back and enjoy the music.
