Wilson Sophia 2 vs B&W 802d Horestoharleys...what do you mean by saying "Wilsons have a musical bass and over all timbre that is more correct to true music"? More correct to what true music?? What is true music?
Most achingly-beautiful music Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" or Sakamoto's soundtrack from the movie "The Last Emporer"
Leaning towards tubes, but need help long Hello, I would seriously consider the deHavilland tube Verve or Ultraverve preamp. It has, IMHO, beautiful tone and detail with lots of clean bass and "tinkling" highs...a very excellent preamp. It can be found used for the range you mentioned.
Preamp for Bryston 3BST / Magnepan MG1.6QR Check out the deHavilland Verve tube preamp. It can be found for less than a grand. This tube pre has amazing, warm detail. I personally use the deHavilland Ultraverve preamplifier with my Bryston 14Bsst with very nice results for my ears.
amplifier re-break in? It may be difficult to pinpoint what is causing your system to move from "lifeless to absolutely beautiful". Just for your consideration I have found that most quality "high-end" systems will reproduce exactly the quality of the source recording. ...

"The B&W Sound" One thing that I believe will go a long way to rectifying the brightness of your speakers is a tube preamp...as opposed to all solid state. A great tube preamp will, to use an oft repeated descriptor, "warm" your sound and, in my opinion, render t...
"The B&W Sound" You mention the '"B&W sound" that many critics complain about'. IMHO, it is precicely that these speakers are so incredibley accurate and do not have a sound (sonic signiture) that seems to be the "real" seed of these complaints/critics. Quest...
B&W 802D vs. Sophia and I feel that I should respond to your inquiry in that I did some serious comparisons of these two exact speakers. I listened to both of them one after another three different times using the same music...albeit, different components at each setting...
B&W Nautilus 800.....where's the bass? B&W's, especially the 800 series are used in many reference systems. People who understand how to drive them know how wonderful these speakers are. Driving 800's with an Adcom is like asking a whale to swim in a small pond. IMHO, the 800's nee...
Any feedback on the new B&W 802D's I auditioned the Wilson Sofia's and the B&W 802D's. At first I was very amazed by the Sofia's and was leaning toward buying them. However, the more I auditioned, and the more I compared the two, I came to the conclusion that the B&W is (IM...
Synergistic Research B&W Specific cables I checked out the pricing for the B&W synergistic research spec 8 which is next to the top of their heirarchy. For an eight foot pair (they are all biwired)with spades the price is 3018.75...this was quoted to me from synergistic via email. I ...
