Turntable help for a Newbie Doug pretty much sums up my opinion, and since this time he remebered the sale page, I'll let him slide! I heard a similar Sota setup briefly, and while it did sound very good, I (personally) like the Teres better. And so much better looking.Of co...
Tube preamp, Leave On Always or ON/OFF? I leave everything on but the TT motor. It shuts itself off after 40 minutes, which is great on drinking nights! All the tube stuff has good NOS tubes. I hate waiting for everything to get up to speed.
Stupid Question: How to take out tubes?? Remember the golden rule: The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. I pull straight up, but with a little side-to-side action. VERY LITTLE. It seems to help the tight ones come out. But you do run the real risk of breaking something if yo...
Is this why my analog rig isn't so hot? George,The light tracking weight is great, it seems to get much more out of a cartridge. I try to keep my 103r under 1.8 if I can. My next cartridge will most likely be a Shelter, unless I can find a good deal on an RSP. As far as VTA goes, get it...
Is this why my analog rig isn't so hot? George,I still want to know what kind of MUSIC you listen to, and at what levels. All the posts in this thread (almost) ignore the one thing we need to know. We know Psychic likes Salsa, Doug does mostly classical, momentarily I'll tell you what I...
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer I use the Oz. Works for me!
VPI Scout ...with Shelter 301 or Grado Sonata?? Remember, there is now a 301. It runs about $550, I think. Have not heard any reviews, but I'm sure it's better than the Grado, IMHO.
Home brew cleaning solution I agree with Richard & Doug. After countless threads here & on VA, RRL seems to be preferred by a significant margin. I like it. The only time I use anything else is when I have to sink clean an LP before it goes on the 16.5. I also like d...
Mcintosh MC352 with Supratek Chardonnay? It includes power supply. But, it won't work with the Mac.Just kidding! I can't think of any amp it will not work with, as long as you let Mick know what amp you are going to use. That's the great thing about a basically custom-built pre: It can b...
VTA adjusting for Denon DL-103 The arm tube on my OL seems to have the best sound with the back of the armtube lower than the front. But, I like to play with it, so it varies a lot.I'd suggest playing with it for the best sound. You can measure all day, but in the end it's the ...
Best table in $1500 range Doug,I knew you'd see the light! We can't let the non-Teres crowd suborn a possible new recruit! On the other hand, I don't know why I bought the two plinths, it just seemed like too good of a deal. Maybe a little experimentation....
Best table in $1500 range Doug,Whaddya mean, above his budjet? Does anyone ever look at the sale page on the Teres site? Chris has some acrylic plinths for FIFTY BUCKS. I know, I bought two of them! So, 50 for a platter 1400 for motor, bearing & platter (acrylic) = 145...
Supratek phono stage dark? Have you given it a chance to break in yet? I don't think you can make an comparisons, or expect it to perform it's best until you have over 100 hours on it. Give it some time, I'm sure you'll be happy!
300b amplifier chassis Carl,There is a guy on ebay who sells beautiful copper chassis. They usually go for about a hundred bucks a piece. Here is the link to his current auction:VACUUM TUBE AMPLIFIER COPPER CHASSIS CABINET He also sells wire & other stuff. I bought ...
Dealing with transformer hum I've got to agree. Mine hums if the dryer is running (I told my wife I'd beat her if she does THAT again!), microwave, etc.... I don't like to use a power conditioner with this amp. It normally sees duty as a sub amp, and the hum is never noticabl... |
