Do you listen to equipment or music. Hi everyone, my name is josh. It’s been 9 months and 7 days since I last opened my “testing” playlist.:)
Question About DACs ...I also saw from cleeds’ quote that you were about to list terms that are acceptable to use. I’d be curious what makes your list.

Question About DACs @mzk...(what follows is a sincere question without an ounce of rhetorical in it) im curious if you have been to an audio show or have tried a ton of equipment out a a dealer or auditioned a ton of gear in your own system? If so, do you like most o...
Question About DACs i would say nothing stops it from being audibly transparent.... That said, I’ve never heard 2 DACs that sound the same (good or bad, cheap or expensive). I will add (controversially, I know) that the DACs that sound the most alike are the boring-a...
Question About DACs “People just don’t want to hear that their $5000 DAC isn’t audibly better than a $250 one.”Not looking to land on either side of this argument, but from looking at the length and energy that goes into posting it seems that “people don’t want to he...
The Science of Cables What is the audio equivalent of adjusting “contrast” (like in a photo / image editor)? When I have rejected a lot of cables and power conditioners (very expensive ones included) it is because I find them artificially boosting what I can only desc...
What responsibility does a seller have to tell a customer an item has been serviced? Another small note: I've usually discovered some history of repair when the item price is a little "too good to be true". Seller's conscience usually expresses itself in a drop in asking price, after which they feel relieved of their responsibilit...
What responsibility does a seller have to tell a customer an item has been serviced? Someone here (or collectively we) should write a list of good questions to ask before purchasing a used piece of equipment. It would be very helpful to many on this site.I wish I had that list when I started making purchases. The first few audio pu...
Why the facination with integrated amps? I think manufacturers have realized integrateds can be the “gateway drug” for getting consumers into their sound/brand as they move up tiers in the cost/quality chain (yeees, not indelibly linked), so they have made them better.Especially higher e...
High resolution digital is dead. The best DAC's killed it. I think it's gotten to the point that it depends on the quality of the recording. You can get almost everything out of almost all recordings at Redbook quality, but a few excellent recording can be milked even more with higher quality files.
Luxman Integrated - What do they sound like @erik_squires That 5.1 build sounds pretty epic! The only advice/experience that I can lend is that it is well worth putting the 5.1 away for a bit to aim for big gains in a stereo setup. I ended up listening to much more music and replaced much o...
Luxman Integrated - What do they sound like @erik_squires Wow, did I ever spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to make a direct DAC to amp connection work with a 5.1 receiver. The only good solution I found is from a gear manufacturer who posts a lot on these forums (Steve at Empiri...
Luxman Integrated - What do they sound like @tomcy6 The link that @yyzsantabarbara shared goes some way to describing it. It's a tough one to pin down. Let me try. Let me also say that your mileage may vary with different speakers and other system components. Thanks for also giving us a foc...
Luxman Integrated - What do they sound like Erik,Have you ever tried using your Brooklyn DAC as a preamp? Or is that just the “+” model that has that feature?i generally have preferred to have a preamp in the mix but have also had very successful results going direct from DAC/preamp to Ampl... |
