My audio system and streaming service are not yet on speaking terms. Help needed.
@soix -- thanks for the suggestion and rationale; definitely something for me to consider. @audphile1 Thanks for the detailed overview of Roon. I tend to listen to music with my eyes shut, so album art isn't critical. Charlap records under both ...

Thanks @ghdprentice  I live in Canada, which does not have access to Qobuz, but I may be able to still subscribe using a VPN. One of the first things I need to do is to see if that will work. Like you, I enjoy the music more than spending time ad...
Favorite audiophile-quality cover bands ...
Tidal: Only one - Close my Eyes - and listed under Leonid Vorobyev & Friends. Not sure about Qobuz.
Separates or Receiver to modernize home theater?
Chanliz - you posted while I was composing so let me respond. I tempted to get a projector but may save that until I finish our basement and make a devoted home theatre. This will be in our family room so I'm leaning towards a flat screen of 55" t...
Separates or Receiver to modernize home theater?
Thanks Meiwan and Elevick. The OPPO does have multi-channel analog out and the Anthem multi-channel analog in, and if the OPPO will do all the processing, that may work fine. And I can run HDMI directly from the OPPO to the TV; I assume, Elevick, f...
Who Are the Best Young Lions of Jazz Today?
Bill CharlapOf all the pianists I've heard since Bill Evans, Charlap is the one who most excites me. Has two trios - Bill Chalap Trio and New York Trio - and also plays with a lot of other leading players and singers as he is in much demand. To me ...
Modern Jazz Pianist recommendation
Bill Charlap is my favorite jazz pianist, especially his recordings under the Venus Label (Japanese) under the name "New York Trio".But to be fair, Charlap does not play anything like Joe Sample or Bob James. He's mainstream jazz playing classics.
Jazz piano faceoff - please vote
Nimmer is nearly 20 years younger so that's no knock on this kid but he has a ways to go to develop Charlap's touch and melodic drive.
Miles Davis "Sketches Of Spain"
I turned to your post, ironically, as I was listening Jin Hall's Concierto, which, as I'm sure you know, is another remake of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, as is Sketches. All our wonderful though I prefer Hall's version with Chet Baker, Paul D...
Matt Savage 15 year old Pianist genius
Thanks for the recommendation and link. A remarkeable story for a young man who has battled autism. He does remind me a bit of Evans on his slower pieces, which is a high compliment. For Evan's fans, I also recommend Bill Charlap, who displays a l...
Creating compilations in preparation of Bar Exam
I took the bar exam 15 years ago in New York, and it was my experience that I wanted music to soothe and relax me leading up to the exam, not to psyche me up. I think staying calm and focused is helpful the days of the exam, so I listened to class...
Jazz trombone anyone?
J.J. Johnson, as others have noted, is perhaps the best-known jazz trombonists, and while he was a featured player or a supporting player in many dozens of recordings, one of my favorite is "At The Opera" which matches Johnson with a young Stan Ge...
Help - New Paradign Signature speakers buzzing
Gmood1 - It sounds to me more of a buzz rather than a ringing (it's not high-pitched;more of a staticky sound)
Help - New Paradign Signature speakers buzzing
GMood1 and Rgc - Thanks for your help. It's interesting. After I posted I played a Kathleen Battle recording that featured her soaring voice and a flutist and there was no buzzing. Maybe the timbre of the piano (which is much less dynamic than Bat...
London, Ontario
Kevin - Thanks for responding. I'm actually in the Masonville area in NW London so we're not far apart. You don't have a systems description but it sounds from your threads that you've taken quite a different approach with your equipment than I ha...
