Bricasti M1 DAC vs PS Audio Direct Stream DAC
When I brought the M1 home for audition, I placed it on these footers from Harmonix by Combak, the RF 900 series :-http://www.combak.net/feet&bases/FEET_and_BASES.htmlhttp://www.combak.net/ (review here)They make a world of difference. I use t...
Esoteric K01: What are the best settings for CD?
PhillyB,Your experience very much mirrors my own. I tried the various permutations and combinations initially and found that DSD uosampling with filter OFF was preferred for my system. But one day I just happened to try out ORG with filter OFF and...
Did Redbook get it right?
Electroslacker,Agree with you about not buying another CD spinner. For me, I will use the K-01 as transport until it croaks and that's it. Replacing parts would most certainly be a costly affair. When that happens, I will probably go for the Antip...
Digital Contamination of the Power?
George, Agreed. The power cord may not stop all of the hash but it does reduce it somewhat to the point of being significantly audible. We do the best for SQ with what we can have and what works, even though the problem is merely partially solved....
Did Redbook get it right?
Yes, Lowrider, the retrieval of data by the transport has been said more than a few times by those in the industry, to be more important than the processing of data by the dac(garbage in, garbage out, I guess). And yes, you are certainly welcome t...
Did Redbook get it right?
Yes, George, the Marantz NA8005 uses the multibit delta-sigma CS4398 chip :-http://www.marantz.co.uk/uk/products/pages/productdetails.aspx?catid=networkproducts&subcatid=networkaudioplayer&productid=na8005http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/...
Did Redbook get it right?
Milpai,That last statement was made in the context of my current set-up which is a pairing of a high end transport with a "low end" hi-res dac. I can only imagine what a high end hi-res dac will do for hi-res material. The point is that redbook ha...
Did Redbook get it right?
I agree now with my current set-up that Redbook got it right from the outset. That said, it took me about 20 years to get the hardware right! How did I realise this? - let's consider some nirvana points. 1. When the glass ceiling that seems to sto...
Digital Contamination of the Power?
Keithmundy,I use Shunyata Ztron Alpha digital power cords. Shunyata make these solely for digital components to alleviate the problems discussed so far. And they work very well in my set-up, compared to the non-digital cords.
Comparing SACD sound to High Res
Gammajo,Have a look at the Ayre C-5 listed here. Going by the great pics of its condition and the rave reviews so far, this may just be what you are looking for. Just to qualify, I do not know the seller.Happy hunting! J.
Comparing SACD sound to High Res
Tomcy6,I agree with what Gammayo said but to complete the whole picture, SACD is 64dsd. Hi-res can be run up to 384/24(DXD) or 256dsd.I have heard good quality hi-res pcm 192/24 and 128dsd trump good quality SACD's, again with all things equal. As ...
Comparing SACD sound to High Res
Gammajo,Not quite. Not all sacd's are recorded/mastered/remastered at optimal quality. This also applies to cd's and hi-res files, whether pcm or dsd. The final sound quality of any format depends on the quality of the whole production process. So...
New SACD player-replacing current setup
Oops! That was Thomaswv's system. :(
New SACD player-replacing current setup
van Alstine?"....My system is the Marantz, a Nuforce mcp 18 preamp, the B&K amp, and Dali Mentor 6s. Nordost ICs and speaker cables...."
New SACD player-replacing current setup
+1, Zd542.I have the Ayre K-5 and it most definitely transformed my system entirely, bringing out the best in every other component.
