Tubes used in VTL 6.5 II preamp?
believe the factory installed tubes are JJs. Dont have the 6.5 but do have the 7.5. You may want to try installing some PSVANE T-IIs. most open and 3-D tube I have tried so far.
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
@orpheus10    +2 on agreement with @sdrsdrsdr. look no further than all the prized tube microphones, tube mic preamps and tube playback electronics on the recording side.
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
@tuberollin has a point. I have heard the impovement as well.but regardless, still need to get the carbonate particles out of the  groove so the stylus can actually track the groove to much more information that is hiding in those grooves.
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
@ mijostyn, no worries. I used to think exactly the same; keep records from getting dirty in first place; be super anal about not letting anyone else handle them, etc. That was key to clean records. But now realize that is not the case. The partic...
Latest Psvane WE300B-Plus Tubes - Any Feedback?
can't say anything about the WE 300B, but the WE KT88s are excellent. they are my favorite KT88 now. very organic sounding.
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
I would agree with @orpheus10 , In  general modern tube gear is usually more realistic than modern SS gear. On older SS and Tube gear, they both impart their own sonic signature on any signal they pass through. I do live to 2 track acoustic record...
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
@mijostynIf I could post photos I would, I have over 300 JPG files of groove images and all show carbonate in the bottom of the groove. so not sure what grooves you have looked at. All I am doing is trying to remove some of the mystery behind LP...

would disagree on static discharges, and some of the other ideas. Have looked into this for a long time and taken many microphotographs of LP / vinyl groove surfaces. first you need to understand what is  mixed in with vinyl pellets before the rec...
Snell E type ll crossover rebuild thoughts
would be careful on recapping snells. Peter Snell hand matched all the components for each speaker. years ago I had a pair of Snell type 1s. decided to "improve" the sound by upgrading all the caps. Speakers sounded like S _ __ _ afterward. Thankf...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
completely agree with @homer_skins.........tubes are the way to go with tape or vinyl.....more realistic sounding. have owned 5 figure SS and tube phono stages; even the best SS has a dryness to it. tubes do not. You should hear Revox with the int...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
The sony APR machines are really nice. I would not worry too much about missing out on the 1/2 inch parts. I had a 1/2 inch MTR-20 14 inch reel capable machine, for many years. finally sold it when I realized it had not been used for some time. ha...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
@hadelman- pretty nice summary  you did there. B-C also did offer some 15 ips 2 track tapes for a brief time, but even then they were 50-65 bucks a copy in 1980s dollars. for anyone who has a teac 1/4 tack deck, especially the earlier A series, it...
Seems like a lot of folks are putting their Primaluna amps for sale...
yep, @millercarbon is correct. FED money printing out of thin air will lower the purchasing power of your green back. so hi end audio prices for new gear will continue to move north, and even PL gear from China will have to have price increases.....

would agree with Tablejockey. great time to buy stuff. Am doing same, looking for good deals. 0nce covid is over, economy will come back strong for many. Lots of pent up demand right now. There may be a few sellers trying to  raise rent cash,  but...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
@pch300  you missed the point I was trying to make, or I did a very poor job of describing itThe point was not to record your LP to tape, and A-B against the LP,  the point was to compare the commercially released LP, played back through a high e...
