which cowboy junkies cd?
My vote is for Trinity Sessions, then Early 21 Century Blues. My dog particularly likes the harmonica of Trinity Sessions and always howls. The recording of Trinity Sessions is done with a single microphone and is superb (IMHO). When I close my ey...
Looking for Jazz emsembles with a guitar flair
For something different, you might also try Nguyen Le - Walking the Tiger's Tail is his most recent CD and perhaps his best (IMO), but his other works are worth the listen. Nguyen the child of Vietnamese immigrants, was raised in Paris and studied...
New David Gilmour record:any feedback?
Ben,I have typically enjoyed the humor and satire of Water's works. Note that I did not use the word "purely", rather I used the word "some" regarding the negative satire of Floyd. Having said that, Waters lyrics have tended to point out the negat...
New David Gilmour record:any feedback?
Dawgfish,I agree with you, but only to a point. I would also add that Waters' point of view in his solo albums, as well as much of his Pink Floyd writing is pessimistic and angry. The lyrics of On An Island mostly reflect positive aspects of life....
New David Gilmour record:any feedback?
Just picked it up yesterday. Listened four times and will replay again once it ends. Liked it on the first listen and liked it better on the second., even better on the third.... As others have mentioned, it's Pink Floydish and better than his oth...

An observation about "Modern" classical music.
Robm321Also listen to Speigal im Speigal. One of the best versions is on Part's Alina CD. You might also consider Vasks "Distant Light", also very moving.John

Eldartford,Sorry if I assumed incorrectly, it wasn't obvious from your posts. So, then am I to assume that you have listened to Gorecki's Third or Arvo Part's Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten - Fratres - Tabula Rasa - Spiegel im Spiegel? If not,...
An observation about "Modern" classical music.
EldarfordYour initial post didn't state the intent of asking why people like modern classical music. Rather your question had to do with the pause after the performance was done. It also seems that your question also pertains to "atonal" music and...
Music Your Wife Will Really LISTEN To with you ?
The musical tastes of "wives" will vary as much as the mucical tastes of any male audiofile. Look at the variability within these threads. Trying to figure out what a "wife" will listen to as an audiofile is similar to trying to figure out what sh...
An observation about "Modern" classical music.
I have three recommendations for modern classical music that I find more approachable:1. Arvo Part's Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten - Fratres - Tabula Rasa - Spiegel im Spiegel2. Schoenberg's String Quartets 1 to 4 (Phillips Classics)3. Messi...
Zappa?
I'll start with Joe's Garage and One Size Fits All (seemingly the most enthuastic choices), and Yellow Shark (the classical influence seems interesting.
An observation about "Modern" classical music.
I just happened on this thread during a break from work. Earlier, I had been listening to what might be called modern classical music, staring with Gorecki's Third Symphony (London Sinfonietta). Also on the CDP was Tavener's The Protecting Veil; A...
Zappa?
Thanks for the suggestions!! I also recall listening to Freak Out (repeatedly) as a kid on my brother's stereo (Couldn't recall the album name until remined by this thread). As always, the best part of Audiogon (IMHO) are the threads about music. ...
Krell vs. Simaudio when powering Totem?
I've extensively auditioned a number of integrated amps, including those that you've mentioned, as well as the Plinus 9200, BAT VK300 and McIntosh 6900 for my Totem Forests. I liked the Krell, BAT, and McIntosh very much, but each produced a very ...
