Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics?
Whenever I upgrade cables I always buy cables that are a bit of a stretch to what I can afford and better than my current components might indicate, so I’m always moving towards "better". I get the benefit of better sound immediately and I’m also ...
Starting a Classical Vinyl Music Collection
Use your public library’s physical CDs and streaming music resources to find pieces, performers, recordings, etc., that you like without investing any money. Then buy on vinyl the ones you like.
BEST little know Jazz Album that you ever heard?
An artist not unheard of, but not that widely known either, is Jimmy Guiffre. Sax, clarinet, composer, arranger, bandleader. Start with his "1961" album by the Jimmy Guiffre 3, comprised of Guiffre, Paul Bley (piano), and Steve Swallow (bass). A t...
BEST little know Jazz Album that you ever heard?
"Straight Ahead", album by Oliver Nelson with Eric Dolphy, recorded in 1961 by Rudy Van Gelder at the Van Gelder studios.  Sublime.
High quality CDs
Lots of classical recordings are horribly recorded, so it's the source that is the problem, not the physical media (the CD) itself.
Finally Learned: Subs serve much larger role than adding more low bass
Besides adding some lower frequencies that your main speakers are not capable of, really the main reason for subs is to relieve the largest speakers in your main speakers of having to reproduce the lower frequencies that they can produce and allow...
Listening to music I don’t particularly like
You enjoy listening.  Nothing wrong with that, not at all.

Silver cables added resolution
@Fil, did you alter your gain stages at all when you switched cables?  If you turned down the output in your source device (and any other stages along the way), which meant you had to turn up the volume at your pre-amp in order to get the same amo...
Refurb GAS Grandson amp or put money towards another amp?
@timlub Thanks for the encouragement!  It sounds like any competent repair guy can get this thing perked up again.  I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the Hafler SE120, but it would be good to hear the Grandson again, too.
Refurb GAS Grandson amp or put money towards another amp?
@normansizemore Thanks for the response.  Yes, I do plan to keep it.  I don't know when I'll look into getting it repaired (budget & time), but I'll hang onto to it in the meantime.  Until then, I picked up a used Hafler SE120 amp in excellent...
Does Age Matter?
Younger people may have better hearing, but not necessarily better listening.  Knowing how to listen to music--and the genre you're listening to--really impacts what your hear.
Does Age Matter?

How old are you?
65, going on 72.  No shame in getting older.  No glory in staying young.
A real "wake up call" available to most....High End Audio vs. Mainstream......
Your argument could be applied to clothes, but if you're interested in high fashion, you're not really going to be interested in what clothes people are selling on Craigslist or eBay for analysis of the lowest common denominator.  You're going to ...
