denon dl 103 w/ origin live silver mk II: help
09-05-12: TbromgardI think Johnnyb53 is correct. If the Denon is that light you could have compliance issues. I may have overstated the difference a bit. The DL103 is spec'd at 8.5g; the Zu 103 at 14g. Still, 5.5g is significant, especially when w...
denon dl 103 w/ origin live silver mk II: help
Another way to lower the VTA is to add a thin turntable mat to the one you already are using. A lot less trouble than the tonearm-based alternatives. Also, you didn't say how much weight you added to your tonearm. The DL103 is both light and VERY s...
Anybody specialize in older SHure carts?
I don't see the need with the Audio Technica AT150MLX and AT150ANV in current production.
entry level turntable
09-05-12: ManituncJohnny,I am willing to accept that I am not the best person to opine on low cost USB turntables as the ones I have actually seen didnt merit even a tryout given their cheap looking construction and operation. If you haven't seen/h...
entry level turntable
09-04-12: ManituncPlease do not buy the Audio Technica. Every audiophile forum has given this item poor reviews, but they are heavily promoted on Amazon and others sites because of the build in USB and phono preamp, presumably for people wanting t...
Budget Turntable suggestions
I recommend you look at this Audio Technica Bundle from LPGear. It includes a heavy, rugged turntable with aftermarket turntable mat and Audio Technica AT-95 cartridge, widely considered the best $50 cart out there. It has pushbutton controls to c...
entry level turntable
Here's a different approach: the Audio Technica AT-PL120 USB DD turntable with LPGear enhancements. It even has 78 rpm, and speeds are changed by a switch, rather than removing the platter and changing the belt position. The LPGear mods include a ...
Subwoofer Plug
Why don't you call SVS and see if they'll send or sell you a plug? Your model may not have come with one, but all their ported square subs come with foam plugs now to adjust the bass rolloff profile.
Help finding a Sub w/ quick punch down to 20hz
09-02-12: IrvrobinsonIf you want real 20Hz response at low distortion you're going to need a fair-sized sub. The REL F110 is about 13"x15"x17" and is good to at least 25 Hz. If you have a strong enough magnet, tight enough tolerances, and enough i...
REL G2 or JL Audio F112 ..thoughts for 2 channel
REL has the advantage of being able to blend high and low level signals. OTOH, at least of the REL test report I read, the REL simply added a sharp bass spike centered around 45 Hz and it was entirely up to the user to move the sub around the room...
Is anyone interested some Sonus Faber Amatis?
Gee, what happened to the OP?
Help finding a Sub w/ quick punch down to 20hz
JL Fathom F212, and the F113 as well. They are very fast and also go to 20 Hz. If you can settle for 21 Hz, you can save some money with the F112 ($3100 instead of $3900).
entry level turntable
So many of the entry-level turntables have moved up $100-200 in price in the last few years. The Project Debut Carbon seems to reset the price/performance point ($399) with a better tonearm and cartridge. It wasn't too long ago that a carbon fiber...
REL G2 or JL Audio F112 ..thoughts for 2 channel
I think the sub integration issue is a bit overstated. I've integrated subs into at least 7 different systems, most of them music-based 2-channel. Yes, it can be bit of a PITA, but it's not like you go weeks on end moving, listening, tweaking, mea...
Cartridge opinions: New stylus, or new cart?
Bpoletti: Thanks for reminding me about the 33PTG. I notice that it has a MicroLine stylus and boron cantilever, a combo I've grown fond of on my AT150MLX. I also notice that it can be had for $489 shipped. I was tempted by JR's $450 shipped for t...
