Best cartridge options for around $200. I don't care what the arm and system matching is, the DL110/160 do not have as refined a treble as the AT150MLX. The HOMC Denons have a decent tonal balance and good macro-dynamics, but simply don't operate at the same level of resolution and deta...
Best cartridge options for around $200. 01-15-13: SchubertGreat, but a 103 is over $200 while the Denon 110 is about $120 , had the Denon house sound and will smoke a Shure or Grado and has a more refined treble that the AT's.If my DL-160 is any indication, the DL-110 has an excellent t...
Best cartridge options for around $200. No, I haven't compared the AT150MLX to any of the DL103 variants. The AT150MLX gives me what I was looking for and is pretty much plug-n-play as long as you keep the total capacitive load between 100 and 200 pF. I've been happy enough with it not ...
Best cartridge options for around $200. 01-13-13: DconsmackShure M97xE. It tests with a near flat frequency response with the Ultimate Analogue Test LP. There is NOT a high end roll off, contrary to what other people claim by listening as compared to testing in real-time.Well, here's a ...
Interconnect recommendations I like Zu as well. They are very low in capacitance, yet tonally well-balanced and not aggressively bright.
Japanese pressings/thanks to unknown collector My stepson and I have lucked into a few like new Japanese pressings at reasonable cost. I scored two Japan-EMI Beatles albums, Rubber Soul and Revolver, on eBay. They had been opened but probably not played. The seller was in my town so we avoided...
Anyone Using Bose 901 speakers In A Home Theater? Mitch--if you're still interested in this issue after 3 months:I have experience with Bose 901s--I worked at an audio store that sold them along with other state-of-the-art speakers of the time--Ohm, Dahlquist, ESS, Infinity, Advent. The 901s are p...
Just how good is the Technics SL-1200? 12-28-12: Hesson11I, too, listen to a lot of live classical music, and I'm encouraged to hear that you apparently are very happy with your Rega-on-Rega setup (P5 and Exact 2). I've always wanted to try a similar approach, but I've never been sure ...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS Audiofeil mentioned that the most significant factor blocking the Technics SL12x0 series is its tonearm. Fair enough. After all, when first introduced in the mid-'70s, Panasonic also offered the SL-120, which was a turntable only with an armboard ...
Kef Blade or Wilson Audio Alexia? 12-20-12: RpelusoDoes anyone really make a purchasing decision based on what some random person writes on this forum? Not likely, but it's probably been the catalyst for many auditions.
Kef Blade or Wilson Audio Alexia? The Absolute Sound review of the KEF Blade was unequivocally favorable. So much so that I was also thinking of getting a pair of Q900s as an affordable consolation prize, or maybe since I have a matched pair of compact subs, the R-300 or 50th Anni...
Kef Blade or Wilson Audio Alexia? 208 sq ft is 13x16 feet. A Wilson Sophia is about the biggest speaker you would want in a room that size unless it's part of a bigger open architecture.
Audio Technica AT150MLX finally gets some respect I can hit the 570 pF with my Jolida without modification. 100pF in the phono cable plus DIP switches that can add 220, 150, and 100 pF, which all adds up to 570. Yay! If I do the Y-adapter mod to get a 15K ohm load I'll check it out and report back.
Audio Technica AT150MLX finally gets some respect 12-16-12: DconsmackI've found to achieve a flat response (+/- 1.5dB) you have to load it at 15kΩ impedance (yes!) and around 570pF total capacitance. Since my phono stage is pretty configurable (Jolida JD9A), I got all excited and looked at the ma...
Which Rel subwoofer 12-13-12: Sksos1Johnnyb you mean the JL Fathom F110. Yes the JL subs are special I went from the REL Stentors to a JL Fathom F113 and its faster, goes lower and has less distortion than the REL ever had. Plus no issues, the JL has worked flawlessl... |
