Paradigm Monitor 7s
Before settling on the Paradigms, at the same price without moving into Paradigm Reference price territory, I'd look at fellow Canadian spkr mfr. PSB, especially the Image series. Even the $499/pr PSBs are smooth, balanced, and uncommonly linear i...
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ?
One more question for Ferrari:The Michell and Origin Live counterweights include both the counterweight and a stainless steel stub to replace the plastic one on the stock RB250. Do you know if Riggle's counterweight includes a replacement stub to ...
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ?
04-03-08: FerrariYes the arm on the Goldring GR1.2 is a Rega RB 250, and will accept any and all upgrades for a Rega RB 250 arm. I spoke with Pete Riggle last night and indeed the counter weight is available, at $75.00 plus $6.00 for shipping.That...
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ?
04-02-08: FerrariNo the GR 1.2 is factory stock, with exeption of the glass platter and the Herbie mat.Yes, I understand, but I wanted to verify that the GR1.2 tonearm is an RB250 and therefore a candidate for the tonearm upgrades offered by Origi...
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ?
4-02-08: FerrariAbout a year and a half ago, I purchased a Goldring GR 1.2 turntable from Audio Advisor for $299.95 delivered to my door. This table is nothing more or less than a Rega P 2 on a different plinth. Came with the Rega RB 250 tonearm a...
orthophonic...???
04-01-08: JlambJohnny53, so this is a mono recording; which is what I suspected but there was nothing on the cover to say so.That's because mono was the norm and stereo was the new thing, which had just come out in 1958, the year before your LP. I...
orthophonic...???
I play mine with a stereo cartridge with no issues. I think the point was that the "orthophonic" mono pressings were compatible with stereo cartridges.
What should I add next?
03-31-08: AutodexrI tried going the KAB route with a Technics 1200 MK5. I finally took the pluge and got a VPI scout. There is no comparison between the two even with the upgrades...the Scout is just superior in every way. Trying to turn the Techi...
New TT/cart question
Are you using the record clamp? Maybe Goldring's Pocan body isn't "all that" when it comes to resonance control.
cantilever collapsed on Shure V-15 III
Maybe it's time to move on to an Audio Technica AT150MLx. It's a MicroLine stylus (similar if not identical to the Shure tip) and many feel it's overall superior to the V15. Plus it has the further advantages of being a better tracker, cheaper (at...
Technics SL1200MK2 Cartridge Discussion
For a higher performance high output MC, how about a Sumiko Blackbird or at least a BPS EVO III? The Blackbird is a S'phile Class B recommended component. As for the Denon 103, you could get a Zu103 and matched K&K step-up transformer for less ...
Is MP3 responsible for the return of Vinyl?
03-24-08: TvadI don't believe most kids who are discovering vinyl for the first time do it because they want to connect with the music. The connection to the music is a positive by-product of being hip.Exactly! They come for the cool factor or out ...
Is MP3 responsible for the return of Vinyl?
03-23-08: TvadTake a look at the new vinyl listings on Amazon. The majority have are rap and hip hop titles. I suppose if the OP's question is specifically directed at the increase in audiophile vinyl sales, then you might be correct. But, I suspe...
interesting arm recommendations (9 inch)
What's his first tonearm?I'd be curious about the Dynavector and/or the Graham Phantom B-44, which are about as opposite in design philosophy as you can get. Both of them facilitate quick cartridge swaps better than most as well.
Grand Prix Audio Monaco Turntable
03-21-08: Mtkhl567I'm only recently starting to understand by listening to old technology based high-end tables what kind of colorations many of our dear traditional audiophile friends have gotten used to....which may help explain the persistent, ...
