What speakers?
07-20-08: SteuspeedJohnnybEminent Technology LFT-16Ah, yeah, I forgot about them. And that made me think about the Oskar Heil Aulos at $1850 or so.Review here.
best integrated amp for under 5K
I always liked PS Audio. Another one to consider is the Musical Fidelity A5.5: 250 wpc and about $3K.They also make the KW 500 at 510 wpc and a tube preamp section. MSRP is $7K, but most of the owners who reviewed it at Audioreview.com got theirs ...
Reasonably Priced PreAmp without Phono ?
If you don't need more than two inputs, how about the Shanling PH3000 headphone amp? Tube-based but wide bandwidth (spec'd out to 100KHz), with two line inputs and a pair of line outputs, 2 Neutrik headphone jacks, and an ALPS pot, all for $399.I'...

07-20-08: GadflyJohnnyb53, I heard those AT carts are peaky, bright. You should check out the Ortofon 2M's. I have the 2M Black and I love it.I just remembered--another characteristic I've read about the AT150MLX is that it's smooth, linear, and m...
Help - Nice small dipole or bipole for HT wanted.
07-21-08: BlindjimLastly,Just how much power is 'sufficient power'? Well, I guess that depends on how big the room is and how much you want to jump out of your seat. Most of my system is powered by 150w per channel. The rear surrounds (where the O...
tube integrated amp recommendations?
What about the Onix SP8 Tube Integrated amp at/by AV123? Ballsy EL34-based 45 wpc and marked down from $999 to $599 new w/warranty. Very retro-cool looking, too.

07-20-08: GadflyJohnnyb53, I heard those AT carts are peaky, bright. You should check out the Ortofon 2M's. I have the 2M Black and I love it.Mine isn't peaky. I have no tolerance for peaky, and even if I did, my wife would let me know. In fact, I...
Help - Nice small dipole or bipole for HT wanted.
In my 7.2 HT setup, I have previous generation Mirage OM-R2 L-R surrounds with a hemispherical soundfield (all in phase) and for the rear surrounds I have a pair of nearly omnidirectional Mirage Omnisats, v1. As they are mounted on the wall, they ...

07-20-08: GadflyI have a DL-160 on the SL1200 and can't get rid of sibilance which does not show up on finer styluses that are on the Ortofon 2M Black and retipped Denon DL103.When I was running a DL-160 on an SL1210 M5G, I noticed the sibilance w...
Looking for sub $1000 SS amp
What about a Parasound Halo? A23 is $800 list. Parasounds always have high damping factor and high current for tight extended bass, and sweet musical treble.
Could use some help in choosing new speakers
I just took delivery on a pair of Mirage OMD-15 floor-standers a week ago and now that they're broken in, they're just marvelous! In fact, I moved up to them for the same reason you seek to--I wanted something that would move more air in a cathedr...
Speaker direction?
It depends on the speakers and the room. I have had a pair of Mirage M5si's for 12 years, set up in 3 different houses. In the first house they sounded best slightly toed in. In the second house they definitely sounded better facing straight ahead...
Have any of you heard the Klipsch Forte speakers?
Fortes should make good rock speakers because their high sensitivity will turn a small amplifier signal into big, loud music with fast, unclipped transients, which make drums, cymbals and the pick on a guitar jump out more like real life. The main...
What speakers?
To sound like a Maggie, a cone-based speaker has to have no enclosure resonance, project a sort of line source image, and be dipolar to energize the room in a similar way.Minimonitors don't do that. They function as a forward-firing point source, ...
Question on cable selection for Vandersteen 1
Do you mean 14/16 mm or 14 *GAUGE*? Most wire size is given in gauge, and the lower the number, the bigger the cable. So 14 ga. would have less resistance (and possibly more bass depending on a lot of other factors) than 16 ga. What are you willin...
