MBL alternatives
In addition to their very sophisticated room-filling dispersion, the MIrage OMD-28s' -10dB point measured anechoically is 18 Hz. In-room, these things are linear to around 22 Hz, which should give you more than a taste of the MBL experience.
What one product has redefined music for you??
Product? Do you really mean "redefined music" or "redefined musical reproduction"?The events and things in my life that have redefined *music* include seeing Rostropovich play cello with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra twice, seeing Buddy Rich d...
Help choosing a new cartridge
08-25-08: Jayboditch the notion of mc, and get an AT 150...spend the balance on records. I'm glad somebody else said it first. I looooove my AT150MLX and have no intention/desire to upgrade it for a long time. It just gives me everything I want, n...
The disappearing $500 turntable
I should have prefaced this by saying that if a novice wanted to get into analog playback, the last thing I'd do is suggest he scrounge for a 40-yr-old unit and restore it. I'm sure you can get really good results that way, but that's hardly a plu...
The disappearing $500 turntable
08-28-08: LearsfoolThe Rega P1 is quite a bit under $500, and I believe Music Hall still has at least one under that figure as well. Well, I know there are still entry-level tables between $300 and $400, but they are starting to creep towards $500...
Playstation 3 Blue Ray quality - How good is it ?
08-27-08: CerrotI was under the impression that the PS# did not do Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD. The PS 3 can read and extract the uncompressed codecs, but it doesn't decode them internally. This article explains that the PS 3 can read Dolby TrueHD and ...
Will new Class D trump a vintage Class A/AB?
08-27-08: MapmanWhat's the rest of your system that the Onkyo will be synergizing with? Source is a Technics SL1210 M5G with KAB fluid damper, Oracle Groove Isolator sorbothane mat, and Audio-Technica AT150MLX MM cart mounted on an LPGear Zupreme ...
Anyone NOT like the sound of VPI?
That's weird. I auditioned a Rega P3/24 with Elys II going into an all-Rega chain--Brio driving the R5 floorstanders, and I thought the detail was unnatural and overdone. Maybe the Brio was clipping or there was feedback or the system was overload...
Blu Ray or Oppo?
26-08: IplaynakedThe disc is a dying format. Welcome to the "hard drive disc" era! - downloading digital media, computer/entertainment media convergence, internet based home automated systems.Yeah, but there will always be a thriving niche market ...
Blu Ray or Oppo?
The Oppo is so low profile and the PS3 so compact, I found that I have room on my rack to stack one on top of the other. I use the Oppo for all music; I have it internally upconvert everything to 7.1 channel and use the 7.1 analog outputs to the 7...
Playstation 3 Blue Ray quality - How good is it ?
I have a LCD-driven 55" rear-projection HDTV by Hitachi, which accepts 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Its native mode is 720p, but somehow, the picture is just a *little* bit better when I feed it 1080i signal. We just got a PS3 yesterday, and when we set...

In Chris Martens' review of the $7500/pair Mirage OMD-28 speakers, he writes:Moreover, the Mirges distinguish themselves through their ability to vanish into the soundstage. Many speakers claim to offer "disappearing act" imaging, but I think the ...
Acurus A-250, Adcom GFA-555 or Audio Research
What speakers? Assuming from your alias here that you're into Klipch's, you hardly need 200 wpc unless your listening room is the size of a gymnasium. You might want to look into the Onix SP8 tube integrated.
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Amber Series 70. Stupid good for the money. My 22-yr-old 70wpc still keeps beating all comers. I'm ordering in an Onkyo A-9555 integrated. We shall see. It's obviously neutral from the get-go, but deceptively, seductively, unfailingly musical and ...
Gallos ohms mirages or deuvels
Here is a review of the Mirage OMD-15s for Ultra Audio and here is a review of the Mirage OMD-28s from SoundStageAV.com.Everything they say is true. The OMD series provides a better radiating pattern than simple wide dispersion or a purely omnidir...
