Vintage speakers 80s-90s..... 11-06-09: Pubul57I remeber ADS speakers from that period being quite good. They sure were. I owned a pair of L1090s I bought at the end of that production run in 1987. The bigger brothers, the L1290 and L1590 were bi-ampable and had larger cabinets...
Has anyone tried new Auvio cables from Radio Shack Good stuff is where you find it.I have Belkin PureAV Silver brand (as opposed to Blue) speaker cables in my analog 2-channel system. Anyone spent time with the Totem Wind? hey sounded exceptionally clean, with a black black background, but unexciting. My friend said they sounded like they were in an 'anechoic' chamber, which he meant sterile sounding without air or "aliveness".That's a pretty apt description of a sp...
Anyone spent time with the Totem Wind? I see a couple of potential trouble spots in the OP's original audition environment. One is that you'll generally get a better presentation by putting the speakers in front of the long wall, not the short one. Next, if you have to put the speakers...

Still liking my PSB Stratus Gold i's No reason to "upgrade" from Stratus Golds. They do so much right, and are resolving enough to yield audible benefits with disproportionately priced upgrades upstream. My main speakers are also big floorstanding Canadians from the same era--Mirage M...
Speakers with good Bass recommendation Look into the Cerwin-Vega CLS-215 or CLS-15. The 215 has been very favorably reviewed (surprisingly) by both The Absolute Sound and Soundstage. They're about 95 dB efficient and are pretty flat down to 26 hz. They are also very flat in amplitude; ...

New speakers needed on a budget GregandMary writes:...We have a budget of $800 a pair. They need to be floorstanding. Jazz, classical, rock, and a few movies are our listening pleasures, but are never played loud. The room is all hardwoods, and is about 18 x 27. ...PSB has just ...
Small speakers...big sound?? 1-20-09: TpreavesCheck out the Zu Druid Credenza, they were designed for your situation.I have not heard them so I can't comment on the sound. Then you don't just need small speakers, you need speakers voiced to sit on a credenza, like these of the ...
Do subwoofers really help? So Focals have more bass in your system. But how do you know the unnamed speakers of your original post are capable of more bass than you're currently getting? Have you experimented with room placement? As far as impedance matching goes, there are ...
Small speakers...big sound?? Totem Acoustic Mani-2 Signature. 8.5"x16.4"x12" and genuine bass extension (thanks to an isobaric woofer implementation) into the mid-20's and overall very linear with good in-room dispersion. Updated Stereophile measurements here. |
