What tonearms $1500 work well with the Linn?
Drubin, unfortunately, it does mean that the Origin Live arms will not work well, as they are all based in the same design. This was part of the reason there was such a hubbub about whether the Regas were as good as some said when they were first ...
ASL Mini Phono
I'm falling in love with this thing, though I'm not certain what's going on. I just made an armboard for my Ariston RD80 (Linn LP12-like) out of Purpleheart, an exotic purple hardwood. I put the Black Widow tonearm on it, and mounted the Grado Pla...
What tonearms $1500 work well with the Linn?
The Linn does not like either Regas or SMEs, so they're out. The Linn does love the Aro unipivot by Naim, a very common pairing, though it's only available used, now. So I assume it works well with unipivots generally, but check a little bit on th...
Best cartridge for a Denon DP-47 F
Well, the Shure had banged down on the record, and I think the cantilever, being so stiff, simply snapped instead of flexing or bending. Then again, maybe it was a bum cartridge. Don't worry, as you point out, they have an excellent track record. ...

Steve, Geez I guess that Lenco thing is getting some attention after all. I was beginning to wonder if I should go on. And the V15 is not about flash, its about truth, and you'll come to love it. Of course, it's also very good at all that audiophi...
Best cartridge for a Denon DP-47 F
You need something that's not sensitive to hum, that has a healthy output, rides quietly in the groove, has some audiophile cred, and is largely insensitive to tonearms. Easy: the Shure V15, latest edition.
vertical tracking angle
Scott, I've owned a Grace (I'm not sure which model), and its VTA was adjustable by loosening an allen-key bolt in the tonearm pillar collar. Then the pillar just slides up or down to the height you want it, then tighten the allen key. Usually a m...
"Trickle up" theory
Unsound and Drubin, actually Drubin first, I think you're on the right track: speed and timing are two different things. For instance, I hear more correct timing - to my subjective ears, but other around me have noticed it - from tube amps, which ...
Back into vinyl - part 1
Gino, Thank You very much, as I am an inveterate record-deck tinkerer! As I've written Psychicanimal, I'll have to give these Technics 'tables a whirl someday.

Twl, good to hear from you again! If you check my original statement, I didn't say all high-end sucks, giving as example the C-J stuff. So yeah, buying an expensive component can pay off, but expense is not an indicator of quality: for that, talen...

Lugnut, tell me more about the Supratek, price and so forth and sites where I might read a review. I both agree and disagree with you as well, as the experience of walking into a high-end shop and being forced to sit down and enjoy the music is as...
"Trickle up" theory
Now I am throwing out an idea to which I hoped for constructive brainstorming. Nrenter discussed the topic seriously, accepting it as an issue worth thinking about, that he had in fact noticed. What I'm talking about is real, not cooked up simply ...

Let's KICK that anthill! Psychicanimal, where are you? Whoooo-eeee!
Is the Ortofon Kontrapunkt A compatible with MMF-7
Bombaywally's info is good, and things are more complicated than that, Artemus 5, as there are synergy issues with preamps, amps and speakers as well. To do the calculations yourself, there's a really easy website which puts it for you on a graph,...

I second Nrenter's motion. I know my system is right when I can lie down on the couch, forget about the sweet spot, and listen to hours of albums. And oh, he's right about the beer too. Perhaps I have read too much of Art Dudley's stuff, Drubin, a...
