DIY stylus-cleaning magic long
In that order?
Decca cartridge experiences
No mistracking from a Decca! That's the best news in decades! Is it because the new stylus profile and quality-control really works, or is it because of the Schroeder? I sense a door opening: I see a new Decca in my future..yes, the image is getti...
What arms will successfully mount on a Linn LP12??
Well, I've said it to other Linn owners, and I'll say it again: the Naim Aro unipivot tonearm. A lot of people have negative feelings about these arms (I mean unipivots in general) but in my experince they sound excellent. The Graham is a case in ...
DIY stylus-cleaning magic long
Sounds great but risky, you must have very steady hands. I had read a while ago that jewelers use gin - yeah that's right, the delicious alcoholic beverage - to clean their diamonds. Apparently some ingredient in juniper makes an excellent cleaner...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
Twl, I must say that I will have to try it as well, as I'm a sucker for DIY mods. Good lateral thinking!
MC or MM?
Stop! Please make it STOP! The confusion is killing me! But go-go Grado! If the great Harvey Rosenberg (long will his passing be mourned) devoted a section of his revered writings to the Woodies, you know they're great!
help picking a cartridge
I'll second that motion, especially as the latest Shure "V" edition was designed with the Sme "V" in mind. Since yours is essentially the same design, then this should be a marriage made in heaven.
MC or MM?
So THAT's why my Grado - in a low-mass tonearm or fuggedaboudid - sounds so detailed and dynamic I haven't touched my expensive MCs in months! No more artificial highlighting of the high frequencies and mucking up the timing! No moe mid-bass sucko...
Help with a complete vinyl setup about $2,500
My budget is also $2500 and I would like to buy the universe, or at the very least a pig that can fly. Let's see now: for that money you want a 'table, tonearm, cartridge, phono preamp and record cleaning machine, and want the whole thing to be ve...
Newbie Question: MM v. MC cartridges?
It is usually assumed that spending more money on MCs brings an all-round improvement in sound. This isn't necessarily so, and as one who personally owned true legendary high-end MCs and still owns and uses them, I can say that with the increase i...
Noisy Motor In My Trusty Logic DM101
If you go cruising through The Vinyl Engine you should find some info on people who actually disassembled their motors to fix them up. First thing is to remove the belt and platter and turn on the motor to see if it is making noise on its own. If ...
Is there anything better than the NAD 320bee
Depending on what you like, and I have owned an ancestor fo the 320, the 3020i, but I think the new Rotel RA-series amps are terrific. Perhaps less refined than the NAD (based on reading), but also punchier and with more attack and Prat. Also come...
Rega Brio X Rega Mira X Creek 5350SE
From what I've read the Mira is much better than the Brio, which even in its price class is not outstanding. Between the Mira and the Creek is another question, both being considered very good. Have a listen and see!
Cartridge & phono preamp for Denon DP-60L
Problem with the Grado Platinum, which I own and love, is hum issues with a direct-drive turntable. In this regard, the Shure is a safer bet. Someone else with experience of direct-drive and Grado could tell you more. But lovely as the Grado is, t...
What are good turntable acoustic damping materials
Barry, I have absolutely nothing against intelligent use of damping. But given that perfection is not possible in this world, at any price, do we really want to highlight any weaknesses a turntable must have by over-application of damping? In othe...
