Cartridge for my Linn Sondek LP12? I don't know how much under $300 your budget is, but if it's close then also consider the Grado Platinum, which is a very significant leap up from the plastic-bodied Grados, while being essentially of the same design, so no physical penalties. A l...
VTA on Rega for Denon DL 103 Well, the Denon has a spherical stylus, and so isn't overly sensitive to VTA or even geometry issues, though of course an effort at optimization should be made. Do not fear but forge bravely ahead!
MG-1 Air Bearing Tonearm? Anyone experience it? Don't forget that the hose itself smooths out pumping surges along with the tank, andwill further quieten things. The Maplenolls I lived with for years came with 100 feet of hose, and at something like 10 cents a foot we're not talking a fortune. ...
Thorens TD 125 vs. new cheap TT? The TD125 is a superb belt-drive turntable, they don't build them like this anymore. Try a Stanton 681EEE, great value for money, then I suppose a NAD PP2, unless you can find something better used here on Audiogon.
vpi aries/jmw-10, grado hum Try grounding the turntable with the tonearm to your preamp.
ARXA Turntable - Rega RB250 Tonearm Yep, I did, actually the RB300. Sounded good. This 'table is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and many would be stunned if only they took it seriously enough to mount a good arm on it. Then they would learn about PRaT. Old story. Please take off the ca...
Which turntable should I keep? What they said, and the TD145 is simply a semi-automatic version of the TD160, so basically you already have a TD160, with some convenience thrown in. I recently set up a Stanton 681EEE for a friend and was very impressed. So much so I ordered one...
Is the Teres a Artar1, you want to talk about windbags and pompousness? "There are a number of really fine turntables on the market today from Galibier, Teres, Redpoint, Verdier, Pluto, La Luce, Transrotor (their high-end models), and Kuzma Stabi, just to name a...
Is the Teres a Hi Raul, just a couple of notes to add. I will re-iterate that I never said or wrote that PRaT (or timing, or whatever...;-)) was the ONLY consideration, but the prime one, or "critical" one as you wrote. We differ, or divide on the following issu...
What's wrong with classical music on vinyl? Sounds like a classic case of mistracking to me, I recognize the description, as I own a Decca cartridge, notorious for mistracking on more difficult discs. Classical music is in general far more demanding to reproduce than pop and jazz recordings...
Is the Teres a Thanks for clearing up matters 4yanx, I wouldn't say we disagree about the issue of PRaT, or more precisely the "word" PRaT or even its meaning, what it comes down to is that PRaT is a politically-charged word, a leftover from the Linny vs High-Ma...
older grado cartridge hook ups? If it's like the newer ones, the black plastic has "G" for ground (blue and green) and "H" for hot (red and white), the "R" for right (red and green) and "L" for left (white and blue).
Opinions on MC cart and arm for Lenco/Home Depot? I guess the Lenco-ers are all asleep or on holiday, so I'll jump in, I can't stand it any more! Jeez, probably no one has tried more different combinations on the Lenco than I have, though 4yanx is definitely catching up! The Lenco is a very neutr...
MG-1 Air Bearing Tonearm? Anyone experience it? I loved my Maplenoll arm, with the right cartridge nothing images like an air-bearing linear-tracking arm, I never had problems with mine, it was very musical and had excellent bass (a traditional Maplenoll strength). I've been staring at that arm... |
