Suggestions- High Performance TT/Arm- Rock Jazz, OK, you want Top Dog performance at beer-budget prices?! Try a rebuilt Lenco, if you've got the cojones ;-)! No tonearms are preferred over others, cartridges depend on tonearm. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will touch a properly set-up idler-wheel...
Help Viridian will a Denon 103 work in a Rega arm "Bests" is in terms of qualities usually sought after by audiophiles, in this case (in most cases actually) mostly detail. Extracting more detail from the venerable Denon DL-103 is achieved at a cost which is acceptable, or inaudible, or unimporta...
ar turntable resurrection advice Well, I would have to recommend that old Classic MC, the Denon DL-103, which seduces those from the budget arena to those in the Upper Stratosphere of the High End! They are cheap new, less than $200 shippped from Germany (William Thakker on eBay)...
Lenco tables If he bought it in total ignorance of the problems of stock Lencos and the work involved in restoring/rebuilding them, then he would be disappointed. Not like Thorenses, which need perhaps a belt and a new cartridge. Also not like the Thorenses in...
lenco idler alternatives - Japanese? Hi Spinitch, Lencos are very common and still cheap in Britain and Europe, if Japan uses the same cycles for electricty then it should not be a problem at all to buy one on eBay and have it shippped. But it is a DIY project if you want it done che...
best turntable under $5k A temporary plywood base: what does this mean? Now I understand your earlier cryptic message in another thread that you could build any plinth I care to name, a disengenuous statement which meant what I suspected, that you had not in fact built a ...
What tt 's have you sold after getting a Lenco? Hi Alex, unfortunately I am in transition right now, looking for a new location and so there is no news for the moment. There are some Lenco owners in my area I've helped achieve Lenco Happiness who are willing to demonstrate. If you e-mail me I'l...
What tt 's have you sold after getting a Lenco? Hi Raul, great to read your open-mindedness (a rarity in high-end audio ruled by reviews of expensive equipment/quality-as-measured-by-price) and sense of adventure!! I'm for it. In fact, with everything I've learned about rebuilding Lencos since ...
What tt 's have you sold after getting a Lenco? Well, I guess as the first to sell a high-end 'table in favour of a Lenco I'll add my own two cents to David's thread. I had a Maplenoll in various iterations, from early oak Athena to latest Ariadne with Corian body and 40-pound lead/graphite pla...
$3-6K Source Upgrade: Digital vs Vinyl Again Omigawd, Raul is going to rate the Denon DL-103, run for the hills!!! Don't make me come over there and spank you Raul ;-), the Mighty Denon DL-103 is my own personal Sacred Cow (along with the Lencos, that is)!If you want to get off the audio tre...
Weak point in this analog system ? Well, considering the Denon is part of this discussion, I think I'll jump in! You wrote "I heard the same set up with a Audio research ph1 phono stage and to my memory the sound was thicker and more real." Sounds to me like you like the tube sound...
Help educate Analogue rookie In fact, in my area, there is truly an explosion of new vinyl - two large shops dedicated to new vinyl with small used sections, three CD stores with vinyl sections that double in size every few months now (a shop which dedicated itself to CD year...
Help educate Analogue rookie Absence of ticks and pops is what sold the majority of folks on CD in the first place, I was there watching the whole world jump on the great Perfect Sound Forever bandwagon. "Damn the music, give me blessed silence!" the crowd cried, and the musi...
Celebration vs Blackbird The Sonic Frontiers is no slouch, and NOT a budget phono stage which must be replaced instantly: Sonic Frontiers is a very serious, respected name, and the SFP-1 Signature is a true high-end item even by lofty Audiogon standards. There will ALWAYS...
Direct Drive Turntable plays slightly too fast Yes it's possible the pot is oxydized, this is a common problem with old DDs. Just spray it with contact cleaner or Deoxit, turn it repeatedly working it in, and it should be fine. Good luck. |
