Kind of Blue
I like "Kind of Blue" but I do have a  few Jazz Albums that I like better,  including: Olu Dara, In the World: From Natchez to New York Julius Hemphill - Dogon A.D. Abdullah Ibrahim - Yarona Johnny Dyani - Angolian Cry Macy Grey - Stripped ...
New Falcon ls3/5a Silvers in the house
In reply to nealkot.  I also played the Abdullah Ibrahim album "3" on  an  oldish Audio Research  vsi60 this week.  Ibrahim's playing on the album reminded me of the NJPAC concert he gave, December 2023.   Of course, the album doesn't end with him...
First Streamer...
2psyop,  I have the Rega Saturn not the Rega Apollo (although they might have the same DAC.)      I'll try to research this.
First Streamer...
I play alto.  I live in Brooklyn, NY and have been taking lessons with Matt Marantz and joined a rehearsal band at the New York Jazz Academy.
First Streamer...
Thanks for a lot of help.  I didn't buy a streamer yet, but I note that the Bluesound Node is most recommended. I guess I'm on catch-up with streaming, perhaps because I've got kids home or perhaps because I've been playing saxophone recently.   ...
What are your favorite recordings that sound best to you?
Stripped - Macy Grey.
Audio Research I/50
I'm also really happy to see this product.   I've had a Audio Research vsi60 for years and have been looking to upgrade (with another Audio Research amp) for a bit.   The vsi75 isn't available in black and neither is the Gsi75 and the reference se...
Looking for a new phono preamp
I've had a good experience with tube phono stages.   I recently upgraded my solid state phono stage to an Icon Audio valve unit and there is much greater clarity and a darker (noise free) background.
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
Tom Robinson Band,  "Power in the Darkness"   1960's Brit Rock that still sounds good.Olu Dara,  "In the World" a surprise pick by Stereophile  Magazine as the album of the month some twenty years ago.
Opinions on the Zaph Audio ZRT Revelator Towers ?
I've also had the 2 way ZRT towers for a couple of years.  I assembled them myself in cabinets from Lee Taylor (http://www.taylorspeakers.com.)  Mine are in a smaller central room that that opens up to a couple of larger room on the sides.   I'm r...
Thoughts on choosing an amplifier
How about a used Audio Research Vsi60?   It's a fun amp with plenty of power, a big sound stage and a lot of get-up-and-go.  I prefer it with the original 6550 tubes,  not the KT120.   It falls in your price range.
Audio research VSi75 -why so many for sale?
It's probably a fluke that several VSi75's are available right now.   They are usually hard to find.   I'd like one to replace my VSi60 but I do balk a little.  The VSi75 is only available in silver and all of my electronics are black.
Jazz for aficionados
Today I listened to:Abdullah Ibrahim and Johnny Dyani, "Good News from Africa"and Macy Grey, "Stripped"
VSi60 Bias Adjustment
John Rutan at Audio Connection replaced the resistor and as one of the 6550 tubes was bad he switched the tubes to the KT120's that I had.   John also said that I should  to replace the 6H30 tubes because they were tired. The repair was fine but I...
VSi60 Bias Adjustment
Thanks for the response.   It's good to figure out what is going on.    I bought the amp used on Audiogon and it came with 6550 and KT-120 tubes.   I don't know how many hours are on them.
