components in your system My eleven year old Denon 1025 125watt receiver. It sold new for $1000 and is 2 channel only. It's probably worth all of $150 on the used market, but still sounds pretty good, has a great tuner, and makes a nice front end to my TV & DVD player....
Aleph Owners and Users... Tom: To my knowledge, the Aleph 3,5, 4, 2, and 1.2 all use 2 gain stages. The 0 and 0s used three.
Wha'choo lookin' at? My feet.
What do you guys think of Spectral? One of my friends has this stuff. Probably the most precise and highly detailed equipment I have every heard. Spectral and Pass Labs are on their own cloud in this respect. A little cool sounding but I guess that's an artifact of the precision. I ...
Who 'won' the show at CES Hey Albert: I talked with ARC yesterday. They mentioned that the van 5's were actually richard vandersteen's personal set. They couldn't get a set in time. Nice guy! The ARC guy said that they were using some 'blue' audioquest cables. I know the d...
If you had to make this decision.... I would try and find a tube preamp if you can. I had the 1.6's, and they greatly favored tubes to solid state - at least with an amp. I know the ref 2 has a processor loop. I've heard the vk30SE and thought it was awesome.
Vinyl Newbie, please help... On the bat 3 series, the phono stage is optional. I would open the case and try to see if there is a card that say's phono that appears to be an add-on. You should look in your manual or somewhere on the preamp (even on the circuit board) to see i...
High on Thier List, But Low on Yours hey Trelja. VTL actually makes me feel 'chilled' when I listen to it, but I like the ARC stuff. I guess it's splitting hairs. ARC equipment is very accurate, but it does have a warmth to it. I find that using my arc phono stage with my arc amp, I ...
Moderately priced phono preamps I've heard the black cube. It wasn't lacking for much of anything. Excellent sound. Very detailed and almost 'sweet' sounding. A nice ergonomic consideration is that it does not require it's own shelf.
Aleph Owners and Users... Oddly enough I own both the vt100m2 and the 100watt pass aleph 2 monoblocks. I never really decided that I liked one better than the other. The aleph 2's are the clearest and most detailed amplifiers I have ever heard. they sound like they take le...
Best Zip Code for Perfect Life Yeah Timberline is way cool to go hang out. You know that's where they filmed the shining ! I've stayed there at christmas time before. They bring out a sleigh and reindeer. I usually go to Timberline with people who like to ski 'just a little', s...
High on Thier List, But Low on Yours I think krell amps are very harsh and mechanical sounding. This is compared to pass labs, spectral, and hotrod mccormack amps. I can't stand VTL amps. I understand why some people would like them - the cool, neutral, detailed sound. To me they are...
Sub for monster BASS!!!!!! I think www.audioadvisor.com sells bag end.
More power? I have driven my AP virgo's with a variety of amps. I found that adding power definitely increased the bass response. You can also decide to sacrifice imaging by placing them near the rear wall - that will increase the bass quite a bit. I am drivi...
Best Zip Code for Perfect Life Hey Axomoxa Powells is doing well as usual. They actually broke it into two bookstores - a technical bookstore that's 3 blocks away, and the main 'nerd-free' store. It's much bigger than it used to be. Now it takes up the whole city block, has a c... |
