How long do good speakers last? I've 3 pairs of Acculab speakers, 1979 vintage. No issues whatsoever to this day on 2 of them. Replaced the grill cloth on 1 pair. That's it!
16 bit vs 24 bit vs 35 bit vs 36 bit vs 64 bit DAC sampling I use a Pioneer CD player (PD-F1009) which is s a 1 bit DLC machine, circa 2000 and rolls 300 + 1 cds all day long. Granted this is in an outdoor system for background music by the pool but everyone loves the sound. Could it be better? Sure, but...
cassettes CAN sound better than vinyl. Yeah...no! 8 tracks maybe?

Budget Phono preAmp Another rec for the Schiit Mani, liked it so much I added another on my secondary system. Very well built, compact, high versatility, selectable gain, etc. Only negative for me is the blinding LED...need to dim that one down when I get a chance ...
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music? Oh, BTW if you ever find yourself in Cleveland (can't imagine why...R/R hall of fame, totally worth it)
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music? There's some really good blues out there right now. Recent artists I'm spinning include Joe Bonamassa (one of the best live performances I've seen, Fox Theatre, Atlanta, 2020), Beth Hart, Samantha Fish, Albert Cummings, Walter Trout, even Poppa ...

How To Do You Measure the Quality of Your AC Power? I'll add in my $0.02 for what it's worth on the subject. To answer the OPs question I don't concern myself with EPQ measurements of any significance. For me, conditioning the incoming power is a very basic requirement to cleanup the harmonics an...
The Raven Has Landed So, @facten Ive not heard those units... that`s great...likely they have extra dampening (rubber mountings, acoustic foam, epoxy resin over-dip, encapsulated cases, etc.) to mitigate the noise. Dampening has pros and cons, but yes truthfully I w...
The Raven Has Landed @millercarbon I 've been waiting for your input on the Blackhawk, very nice review, sir. I agree the power transformers were a bit noisy at first, nothing more than mechanical movement of the individual winding turns when energized. All transfor...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners? My go to for CDs is a fully loaded Pioneer PD-F1009 300 + 1 unit. This thing is for outdoor listening with adult beverage and a cigar, for parties out by the pool, etc. It runs 1 bit DLC, has no other DAC and well, it feeds a mini-monster 120 w...
