Your Forever Pieces? What and Why? I have a MFA Magus B bought in 94. Have upgraded it twice. I use it only for the phonostage now. Shout out to Sota turntables. Had a Satelite from 91 to 2005 and traded it for a Nova. Never will let it go. Also, have a Koetsu Rosewood from 86.
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss? I miss companies like MFA and Counterpoint.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... I actually agree with the basic sentiments that started this thread. It’s impossible to listen to everything in circumstances that resemble your listening environment. It’s all a bit of a leak of faith. I would add add that I have a Miyajima Kansu...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K) I walked several shows and decided that the Dali Euphonia 4, 5 and now the Epicon series were giantkiller at the sub 15K level. Someone mentioned the Focal Elektra 1038 and, of course, Joseph Audio and Vandersteen are always strong.
Any information/experience with Olive ONE Yeah, I dont recommend anything from this company. I have one of their early products, the Musica. I was only sporadically able to get the web interface to work from my computer. They suddenly stopped paying the internet radio service maybe two ye...
Dali Helicon 400mk2 vs Sonus Faber cremona I own the Dali Euphonia 4's which I chose over the Cremona's, Wilson Sophia's, Joseph Audio RM 33, and some others. You aren't playing on an even field as Lewinski pointed out. I would have liked to hear some Piega's and the Electra 1038 but, neve...
Designer Hall of Fame Scott Frankland - without question. The only piece of gear I've never changed out. In fact, he's upgraded it twice.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE @Ctspooner I've never heard the extremas but, have always lusted after them. My acupuncturist had supertowers and I always thought they had an uncanny rightness about them - even when laying on a table! I forgot about B&W 800's - very impressi...

Sleeper preamps: $500 new/used I purchased a used MFA Magus A in 1995 - never gotten rid of it. I use it exclusively as a phono stage now as the Conrad Johnson's of the world have overtaken it's line stage. In 2003, I had Scott Frankland redo it - new capacitors, new pots, new ...
A phono amp that beats the MFA Magus's phono? Hhi, I had my Magus A upgraded in 2003 by Scott Frankland. I'm happy to share the upgrade list with you offline. I had all the capacitors upgraded, the RIAA curve reworked, jacks upgraded etc. Now while i did not do scientific listening tests, i h... |
