Sibilance Problem on Digitized LPs Some basic things to check for are:Samplng rate - you want at least 44.1Khz word length/bit depth - at least 16 bit. This is on the way in, of course. When bouncing down, what are the settings you're using? .WAV files can be any sample rate/bit dept...
Sibilance Problem on Digitized LPs Is the sibilance present when you're listening to an LP? Or is this sibilance appearing only after the music is recorded?I agree that it just sounds like mistracking. Good cartridge alignment and proper tracking force and VTA will alleviate most s...
Ortofon Concorde Overhang with Technics Turntable Every cart I've aligned on the SL1200 using the MintLP Best Tractor is angled in toward the center of the LP.But I would venture that it is also tangential to the groove in at least two places, correct? :)
Ortofon Concorde Overhang with Technics Turntable The concorde is the integrated cartridge (no headshell used) so there's no adjustment, or so i thought!Problem solved! There's a little screw and a tiny allen wrench that comes with the cartridge. The body just slides out from the part of the cart...
NAD 304 - Best SS amp ever? OK I just have to update this.I now feel that the Trends TA10.1 is the best amplifier that I've ever owned. It's in another league, completely, from the NAD. Big sound stage, stable, big images, gobs of detail.I'm out of town but will likely post ...
Recommendations and opinions..? You know, with a room that big, even with one sub I'd consider the 250-Watt amp.
How much difference between these items? It looks like the Halo A52 has balanced inputs and some higher quality or at least tighter-tolerance parts. There's an open-box one at audioadvisor for $1699.The 5125 appears to have higher current-output but the a52 can put out more Watts at 4ohm...
Can Stanton "scratch" TT become Hi-Fi? and that should have read "2-3 degrees" , not "2-3%". If the 'table works and you don't want to get a new arm, you can probably at least triple your money by selling it off.
Recommendations and opinions..? If you're using a high-powered sub as well, I'd go for the 5125 (extremely clean-sounding amplifier - great choice!). If you're using just the speakers listed, I'd recommend the 250 watt amp, especially in a room that size. Out of curiosity, how f...
Can Stanton "scratch" TT become Hi-Fi? Looking at pictures, the straight arm wand on these tables looks like the new, too short variety. These are apparently great for scratching, but horrible for hi-fi as there is up to 18 degrees difference in tracking angle vs. the usual 2-3%. I am ...
Dynavector XX-2 MkII vs. Shelter 5000 I don't know if this helps, but the best turntable I've ever heard was in 1996 at the Stereophile Hi-Fi show in LA:Kuzma turntable with Cardas Heart (modified Benz Ruby) cartridge. It's more expensive than the 5000, but if I were in your position,...
Turntable advice? You know, I'd agree with the recommendation of the Technics - it'll definitely be an upgrade from the p1, but for the money you can do better used. A systemdek or even a Linn will be compact and excellent. In my experience, though, you have to list...
Turntable advice? Yes, do not worry about the "V8 in the Fiero" scenario. A great source is really key in a great system. Instead of highlighting weaknesses, it will probably showcase the best qualities of the rest of your gear - which, by the way, is pretty nice s...
mac min or pc The mac mini is definitely quieter and looks better than most PCs for sure.If you like, you can swap out the hard drive with a bigger/faster one if you won't want the clutter of an external one.It also comes with a remote so you can use iTunes rem...
24 bit/44.1? That's interesting! Yeah, 24-bit word-length (bit depth) can be used with any sampling rate, that's just an uncommon/interesting choice. Those 8 bits mean a much higher dynamic range capability and a much lower noise floor. Even their manual says ... |
