What equipment do you most regret parting with??
Apogee Divas. I've owned pairs on two separate occassions. Selling the first pair when we moved to a house with a too-small music room; selling the second pair because we needed the bucks. But -- just like that 1960 Jaguar 3.8S Mk2 4-door that, as...
Record Stores in Charlotte, NC?
Try Manifest Records on South Blvd. They carry both new & used vinyl in a (relatively) small section of a store that has an acre of new 'n used CDs and DVDs.
MIT Cable-Theory of Operation??
Brian Damkroger covers it pretty well in his Stereophile review in the March 1999 issue. Regarding secrecy; Bruce Brisson and MIT list the following patents, which apply to MIT products. You are free to look them up: 4994686; 4538023; 4718100; 495...
MIT Oracle V2 vs. V2.1
I'm guessing you're asking about speaker cables*, so the question of adjustable impedance-matching does not come up.Oracle V2 was an excellent speaker cable, but V2.1 is more open, has a more articulate bottom end with better pitch definition, and...
ATL Record Show Sept 24
Thanks. Could you post (or send me) contact info for the Show organizers? -- might like to participate as a vendor.ATB,Joe

Electrical properties of cables
A balanced XLR cable has 2 driven legs and a separate ground. If one leg -- either the Plus or the Inverted -- were not connected, you'd get signal, but the result would be down about 3 db from normal. Sounds like what you've got.
Ungrounding an Amp--Any Danger?
The idea in "star-grounding" is to leave the component with the highest voltage potential -- the amp -- grounded, and to unground everything (everything) connected to it.BUT, if you want to determine if the hum is intrinsic to the amp, just discon...
Tyler and Acoustic Zen reviews in TAS
Your question assumes that Sallie had both the Tyler and Acoustic Zen speakers in her listening room at the same time, which may or may not be the case. Even though the two reviews appear in the same issue, they may have been written months apart....
Threshold e-line voltage conversion
Contact Jon Soderberg at http://www.vintageamprepair.net/ Jon is a former Threshold engineer; he is the acknowleged expert (other than Nelson Pass himself) at repair/update of Threshold gear. He and I worked at Threshold at the same time in the la...
classe cav-75 bridged into 4 ohms?
If I remember correctly, the Maggie 1.6s are BiWired. If that's true, then you'd be much, MUCH better off using each of (4 of) the Classe's channels individually in a passive Bi-amp configuration. Specifically, you'd use one channel for the bottom...
How one would determine polarity of Altec 808-8G ?
Use a 9 volt battery -- the kind you'd find in a garage-door opener. Touch the battery terminals (or use short lead wires, if necessary) to the spkr terminals. When the Plus battery terminal meets the Plus spkr terminal, the speaker cone will move...
I Didn't Do My Homework
Why not talk to Pass Labs directly and see what they have to say? In my experience, they will go out of their way to help an owner of their gear, even if he's not the first owner. Phone number is 530 367 3690Best of luck,Joe
Bettye LaVette-"I got my own hell to raise"
I agree. BUT, the title song itself is a Fiona Apple song called "Sleep to Dream" (I'm sure she'd be pleased to know she writes SOUL music) from her first album. IMHO, the original is both more musically satisfying and at least as good a recording.
Is Audience or Cardas a better choice than Kimber?
Which amp do you have? These cables will react VERY (very) differently depending on whether you use SS or tube.
