Cheapest places to buy gear? Also agree with Audio Advisor recommendation on closeouts and/or for their 30 day trial. It is always worthwhile to pay a little more if you can get a home trial. I have gotten some "great deals" pricewise only to find out later that the item does...
Cheapest places to buy gear? I have been treated very well by both the Stereo Trading Outlet in Jenkingtown, Pa and by Toys From the Attic in White Plains, NY. Both are excellent. TFTA has a great showroom-high end audio on one side and guitars on the other.
best used transport 400-700 I owned a Delta for awhile, but sold it and got a Parasound CBT-2000 which was much better. For less than $400, suggest you get an Aiwa XC37M changer for about $90 and get it modified by Stan Warren for $150. This will only output toslink so you m...
Classe' amps I have owned a Classe Four preamp for several years and have been very happy with it. I have used tube amps for many years, but recently I downsized my main speakers to smaller mini-monitors and the 2 tube amps I tried could not get adequate bass ...
Speaker Advice -- Which to Buy While I have been a long term Vandersteen 2c and 2ce owner, I have found that they sound their best with tube amplifiers. The Vandersteen 1c is a more forgiving and easier speaker to drive and sounds good with solid state. It also available new fo...
best sub- 1000 Transport, new or used For CD only, under 1k, suggest either a used Parasound CBT 2000 or the Aiwa CD changer mentioned above (get it modified by Stan Warren). I tried a bunch of transports before settling on the Parasound.I subsequently bought the Aiwa for fun, had it ...
Headphones Headphones are a very personal decision as not only sound quality but comfort is involved. You can spend hours reading posts here and at headphone websites debating about whether Sennheiser or Grado is "better" and will probably find no conclusive...
Buy a DAC or buy an SACD player? There are a lot of good deals available on used dacs and jitter reduction devices (usually necessary to get best sound from dac) so if you have a lot of redbook cd's that would be the best way to go.If you are going to get an MSB, I highly recomme...
What are the best CD-changers? I have finally gotten my $90 Aiwa changer modified by Stan Warren and to my amazement (and delight) it sounds great as a transport. I paid $130 plus $20 shipping for the mod, so for $240 I have a multi-disc changer that rivals the performance of m...
Cheap transport ?? I also own and would recommend the Aiwa XC37M with the following caveats. It is great for the money-no question. If you want or need a changer this may be the only game in town for a quality transport. It is a bit unusual in appearance in that its ...
Bummer ELCO digital cable I am running 2 systems with digital separates and jitter reduction devices, so I always have at least 4 digital cables running at any point in time. This has given me the "opportunity" to experiment with a lot of digital cables and my experiences ...
The best bookshelf speaker Unfortunately, Platinum is no longer in business.
Rega Planet 2000 as a transport?? I have not tried the 2000 model but did try the original Rega cd player as a transport and did not like it. If you already own the Rega, then try it. If you're going to buy the Rega 2000 to use as a transport, I would suggest you look elsewhere. A...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE Will add my vote here for Vandersteen. I bought the 2c's in 1983 and replaced them with 2ce's in 1992. I have been trying to find a replacement for them-something that sounds as good but looks better, but am having trouble bringing myself to waste...
Tube Friendly Speakers Vandersteen Model 1 should work good with your amps. The larger Model 2's need more power. You will probably need to use a revealing speaker cable to get the best results. |
