Vapor Sound Audio/tons of Value for $$$$
I listened to the Tuonare speaker last weekend. Huge soundstage, large, stable sweet spot, and fabulous bass that was so good I had to ask if the subwoofer was on- No. Somewhat mid to rear hall presentation, but I don't think the recording I demoed...
Devore or Harbeths to replace my ESL63s?
I have heard the Devore Super 8s sound lovely with warm sounding Leben electronics, but the 88 is also a little lean IMHO. Dynaudio Focus 260 by comparison had a more even tonal balance but lacked the quickness of the Devores. Harbeths with the Le...
JL Labs vs. REL
Then people, please share your experience with the older R series, thanks!
Is the Esoteric P03/D03 still relevant?
A friend owns a discontinued (x-3?) CD player which sounds great. Detailed yet non fatiguing as mentioned above. The analog circuitry remains superior even if the dac chip is old. Lack of a digital input limits flexibility in his unit. YMMV
Audio Research SP17 or Modwright LS100?
Thanks for the response. Enjoy your new preamp!
Audio Research SP17 or Modwright LS100?
Solo,I would appreciate it if you would be more specific about the sonic differences of these two preamps. I use a Resolution Audio Opus 21 directly into a Parasound A21 (Dynaudio speakers), but am thinking about adding a tube preamp. I've heard t...
B&W CDM9NT vs Dynaudio Focus 260II
In a room that size, I would add a subwoofer or look at one of the larger Focus models. I did hear the 260 at a dealer in a smaller room than yours, and was impressed. More even tonal balance than the B&W midpriced speakers that I have heard.
Audio Research DS 450 amp......thoughts
I had a chance to compare the Class D Audio Research integrated VS. Ayre V5xe with matching pre amp through Maggie 3.7s. The Ayre had noticably greater soundstaging and detail resolution. The ARC had a wetter, less dry sound with more tonal density...
T+A Power Plant ... any opinions?
I heard this with Dynaudio Excite speakers at a dealer last Fall. To my ears, it sounded dark and almost lush compared to a Simaudio integrated (price about $3k, I don't remember the model), which had more detail but a slightly dry midrange in com...
Legacy SE versus Vandersteen Quatros
A friend of mine owns the Focus 20/20. In his room, even with relatively inexpensive Onkyo electronics, some cds sound almost holographic in a good "stereo" kind of way. These speakers also work well with large choral and symphonic music as well a...
good monitor speaker for a large room
I purchased the Special 25s because it did a good job in a 17ftx21ft room open on one side, and with a high power amplifier had very enjoyable midbass for its size. For deep bass that you can FEEL, you will probably need a subwoofer. My four post ...
4 or 8 ohm with Harbeth
Hi Valinar, Could you post your impressions of the Rogue Tempest? It seems to me also that you had Dynaudio C1s before the Harbeths, I'd be curious as to why you switched.St. Louis Stereo in downtown St. Louis, MO carries Harbeth plus Leben and Aud...
Leben Owners: which speakers do you use?
Dynaudios also need more power than Leben can provide. I did hear the Devore Super 8s with Leben separates plus an Opus 21 cd player, and really enjoyed this combination.
Budget integrated amps for garage system
How about a used Arcam integrated (or receiver if you want radio)? Gear with which you can use headphones may be a good option if you are listening in a noisy environment.
Belles 350A Reference vs. Pass INT-150
Thanks for the responses! I think that my Dynaudios would benefit from more power than the 30 watt XA 30.5, even if the sound is more liquid and refined. If I get to hear the INT-150, I'll post my impressions.
