Is the Cary SLP-05 still relavant?
Thanks. Some swear by them but I am skeptical in a power supply. Glad I didn’t have any high $ ones in there anyway I guess since I blew several.
Is the Cary SLP-05 still relavant?
Thanks, agree totally, on my solid state pre anyway. Yeah the stock Sovtek lasted 6 months, guess for less than $20 that is what you get. I ordered another sovtech to be used as a test for any issues and one of the new Mullard GZ34. Replacing rect...

Tom, Thanks for the clarification. I am pretty sure mine are numbered 4332/4333 but like I said the numbers are rubbed and it is a bit of a guess. Based on the above, info they may have been some of the last made, so definitely would not have the ...

Gotta say the 2.4’s even with the fcx are truly fantastic. I loved reading the vintage reviews linked earlier.  I spent the last 4 months switching between the 2.4’s and Magnipan 3.7’s. I feel like a guy with two very beautiful wives that get alon...

I love this thread. The history, suggestions and tweeks are priceless. Have owned 2 pair of CS2’s since late ‘80’s. I picked up some mint 2.4’s late last year. Looks like serial #433/434 although almost looks like they could be 4331/4332 . Numbers...
eBay / PayPal: Beware - enough is never enough.
@audioman, doesn’t that mean you ended up with the preamp and the $4k minus the shipping charges? Or did you have to reship the item to the buyer?Lots of bad juju sounds like. Thanks for the info.  Glad my transactions thus far have been smooth/lu...

Thanks. Those look perfect.
New silversmith fidelium cable
Nope pretty straightforward. They require a bit of finesse as these are like paper thin and about 3 inches wide. You can overlap them easy enough though which is what I had to do at the speakers. I had to buy 10 footers so now trying to come up wi...
What is the average life expectancy of a DAC?
Hey if mahler is right on the inflationary cycle ( there is a global chip shortage) might be able to sell for more than paid....ha..course don’t listen to me I have a Smithsonian basement full of obsolete tech DAT, HDdvd, VHS, SVHS, Nakamichi cass...
What is the average life expectancy of a DAC?
What a great question as it addresses both reliability and obsolescence. Imo DAC design and the chips have made significant advances over the last decade. The main concerns will likely result from connections (usb, wireless, ethernet etc) and poss...
New silversmith fidelium cable
I got a pair of 10 footers yesterday (my rack is outside my speakers) after ordering earlier in the week. Great turnaround and shipping despite a nasty snowstorm in Wyoming. Box for cables was barely larger than a box of stick matches and weighed ...
Ethernet vs 5G Streamer Tech Considerations for Sound Quality
Mitch2 sounds like you had a fair amount work and expense getting main system set. I do have an orbi system as well but my main router signal is solid so I use that, less “devices” touching path I guess.thyname, of course I can do A/B/A and have, ...
