Phono Stage for passive preamp control I have used the following phono stages successfully with a Bent 102S driving a 100K ohm power amp input:EAR 834P (modified)Herron The GrooveWalker ReferenceThey can all be had (except Walker) below $2K if you are patient. IO is nice too (I used wi...
Bent Silver TX102 compared to Placette RVC Hi again John! The other features I like on the Bent is that it accomodates balanced inputs (and outputs) and has a ground lift switch. Lots of flexibility. Which power cord do you use on yours? (only kidding)Driving my CDP (Gamut)in balanced mode ...
Bent Silver TX102 compared to Placette RVC I tend to agree with John Chapman's analysis. My Walker Reference Phono works nicely into the (copper) Bent, and interfaces well into my 100K ohm (input) tube amps. My experience with another resistor-based passive exhibited thinness, and noticeab...
ARC Reference Phono vs. BAT VK-P10 SE Also, the Manley can be optioned to offer an extra CD input.
Low output MC - Math Question ?? However, The Steelhead does have an attenuator, so I am surprised that with 65 dB, you can't drive your amps satisfactorily. Your amps must have low sensitivity(2V?) a. I run a Groove (65dB) direct into my Thor amps via a passive attenuator. Unles...
Anyone Familiar with Magnan Signature Power Cords? I have the power cord/power bar and it seems effective at filtering grundge. I also use the interconnects
Best SET amp for Coincident Total Eclipse speaker I use the Coincident integrated and love it. I like it better than the Wyetech Opal and Onyx mono combo. With Sophia 300Bs, it is even better. The S30 would work too. They are very efficient speakers, so unless you have a cavernous room, 12 to 18 w...
AC polarity Just curious: does anybody know the standards' rationale in specifying the narrow blade for hot (black)? Seems that the return path (neutral)is getting the larger surface area.
AC polarity Dear people: thanks for your help! BTW, I was NOT referring to channel polarity (phase) but proper house wiring to the AC receptacles, to minimize possibility of hum/noise.
Hovland Cable plugs Bill Pilcher from Tom Evans Audio (makers of the amazing Groove phono stage) highly recommends their non-ferrous Bullet plugs. See their web site. Hi-Fi+ mag also reviewed them. But I would not recommend messing with the Hovland. They work great.
Atma-shere preamp comments Tube rush can be a serious problem to tame if you will use the phono with a low output MC (0.25mV). Some have tamed this somewhat with NOS Mullard 12AT7. The hovland has no such problem but has no phase switch.
Atma-shere preamp comments I have both the Hovland and an MP-1 MK1 I bought used (yes they are hard to find used). I am driving MA-1 amps. On CD, MP-1 wins due to better sound stage layering, tonal character rightness, dynamic nuance (ie low level dynamic detailing). Instru...
Preamp for MA1 amp Rushton, could you tell me what those options are, my local dealer has no clue as to what they might offer.
Preamp for MA1 amp Thnks all for you responses. I will go with MP-1 even if I now have to change my interconnects. Did try the Hovland, and it was superb, and good on the eyes too. I seem to agree with Fremer and others on this one.
TT: Aries or Delphi V Thanks all for reply. Jaica, I am perplexed. If the Oracle/Graham works great, why do you believe the Aries/VPI to be my last TT? Is Aries/VPI better than Oracle/Graham? I may be willing to change to Graham if necessary. The Oracle gives feedback ... |
