Tube Integrated vs Tube Seperates
I went to the dealer to listen to the Luxman 595 with Harbeth and walked out with a LM 845ia…which I had not planned to audition or even consider.  And yes, they do run a bit hot.  You’d be surprised how far 20 watts goes.  I generally listen lowe...
Tube Integrated vs Tube Seperates
I had a PL Dialogue Premium integrated, then the preamp and amp separately, and yes the separates were much better - a lot more clarity and detail.  I now have 2 Evo 300 monos that I use a Benchmark LA4 (solid state) preamp with, running Harbeth M...
Weiss 501 DAC
@celtic66  said ”In my estimation I did not overpay for Swiss engineering, design and manufacture”…. Agreed, and in fact I’d say it’s a bargain.  Some of the other DACs or CD players I’ve owned also required a good streamer to get the best out of ...
Weiss 501 DAC
I’ve had mine now for a few days. Usually I’d wait a while to post any opinions and will post again after a while, but I have to say this DAC is unusual in that it is truly transformative with regards to my system. I’ve owned a lot of good DACs an...
Don’t want to freak you out…
I've often wondered if the different tastes/preferences of different audiophiles for different gear/brands wasn't due in large part to ear size and orientation.  If true, how silly when people would criticize another for their different preference...
Fritz Carrera BE vs. Harbeth 30.1
@arafiq nice comparison, I’d love to check out Fritz.  I have the newer M30xd model, and before that the M40.2 anniversary.  I have read a lot online that the 30.1 were closed in compared to the newer models in the treble, but I never owned that v...
Weiss 501 DAC
@verdantaudio great info, thanks.  That’s a very relevant/appropo concept - “compromised”, which better fits what I was trying to get at with things like “neutral” or “natural.”  Many DACs sound mostly fine, but it seems many at a certain price po...
Weiss 501 DAC
Looking forward to your impressions!   I’m looking at the Weiss also.  Wondering if it is more like a $5k DAC with premium price being Swiss and with a lot of DSP functions I may or may not use - I don’t intend to be negative, just that at $10k it...
Think ill just go with a lumin
It’s a great choice, from many angles.  And when after a few months or a year you start to wonder if there is something better sounding, there may be but it’s not worth it.  The T2 is awesome for a ‘modest’ system.  I’ve had about 10 DACs/streamer...
What's next after Luxman 550 AX/II with Harbeth C7
The best amp I’ve heard with my Harbeth M30s is the Line Magnetic 845ia.  I have some other tube and SS amps here (all more powerful), with separate competent line stage, and still prefer the overall sound of the LM integrated.  I went to hear the...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
Benchmark +1.  Quietest preamp I have ever heard.
Isotek EVO3 Syncro UNI
They also have the syncro power cable, which is expensive at $2k but if you use it in conjunction with one of their power conditioners you get then benefit of both.  I have the syncro plugged in to the Evo Sigmas, and find it to be a great combo. ...
Review: Holo May (L2) DAC and the Musetec Audio (LKS Audio) MH-DA005 DAC Compaired
It would be interesting to do the comparison with a quality level streamer.  I would think differences between the two units would become even more apparent.
Aurender N20 Music Server Comments and Observations
Lord, the N20 is an AWESOME streamer! It should be for $12k! In fact I think you’re cutting it short. The extra features are a lot of what you are paying for. Its spdif/AES output and clock is super high quality, and ability to convert DSD to PCM ...
Aurender N20 Music Server Comments and Observations
Well, it's the best streamer I ever had, I thought it was great!  Being able to convert DSD to PCM on the fly, upsampling, a really good clock and SPDIF output, among other features make it very flexible, and sound is fantastic.  The N200 in compa...
