Cary 303/300 driving V12R direct
I own both the Cary 303/300 and a pair of V12R Monoblocks. In my experience the 303/300 does a great job driving the V12's directly. Very dynamic and great transparency. When I add my CAT MkIII pre I do get a bit more body and dynamic contrast, bu...
Experience on B&W N800 with Tube Amplifier
I currently utilize a pair of Cary V12R monoblocks(100 watts triode/ 200 UL)to drive a pair of B&W 801 Matrix ser. II's(87bd eff.)I get fairly tight tunefull bass and great mids/treb, utilizing triode(always). Very dynamic, even on large scale...
B&W 801 matrix in a smallish room?
I have been using a pair of 801 ser.II's for 8 years now in a 14 x 18 x 13 ft room, however it opens up on either side of a large fireplace into another room. I would have to say that with very carefull speaker placement, decent room acoustics and...
Cary 303/300 Analog Volume Control...
Turn the CDP vol up to it's max of 63 and use the preamp gain accordingly. Jim
Jackson Browne's new CD
I've got to agree. A great CD. I can't count how many times I've played it since I got it.Pretty well recorded as well, although a bit close miked on the voice. Jim
cary 303/300 cd player with volume control
This is exactly what I have tried. As good as the 303/300 is, directly hooked to my Cary V12R monos via balanced IC's, it is even better. More transparent, better transcients.A great combination.Hope this helps, Jim
trying to decide between Cary 303/300 and BAT CD
I am using SED el34's for the power tubes, Tele el84's and RCA 12BZ7's for the small tubes. Jim
trying to decide between Cary 303/300 and BAT CD
I was talking about the 12AU7's in the 303/300, however I have NOS tubes in my V12's as well. Jim
trying to decide between Cary 303/300 and BAT CD
While I cant comment on the BAT, I do own the Cary 303/300 and have a pair of Cary V12R's. In my system the two are very dynamic, musical and three dimentional. Certainly not muddy. I really like the tube output stage, esp. with better tubes, such...
B&W 801/ Triode experience
I currently run a pair of 801 ser. II's(upgraded x-over)with a pair of Cary V12"R" mono's(100 watts triode/200 UL) with really excellent results.I am running almost exclusively in triode. Great dynamics, detail and quite transparent. Yes, it does ...
B&W Matrix vs Nautulis
I agree 100%. Maybe a bit more resolution with the Naut. series, but not nearly as musical. IMO, the matrix tweeter, esp the Ser II, is much sweeter and more realistic than the Naut. JimPS- I wish however`it wasnt such a bitch to drive well.
Best Power Amp to Drive B & W 801 S 3
I would consider the levinson 333 or 336, the Pass 350, Bryston or on a cheaper route, a sunfire amp which I used for years with my 801 ser.II's with great success( not the most focused, but detailed and musical). Jim
B&W matrix 801 s2 with Electrocompaniet ECI 4 amp?
Too little. You need at least 200 - 300 watts of good SS to make them sing. Mosly due to impedance issues. Jim
Maggie 1.6 - Best Amp? Thinking about tubes.
A number of people run the Maggies with Rogue Magnum M120's or the New M150's. Jim
Best 12AX7 for phono preamp
I have to agree that the Ei's sound great.I've tried a number of NOS types in my CAT, but the dynamics, drive and tonality of the Ei's have been the best so far. Jim
