Solid core Versus Stranded Speaker cables
There was a time when I switched to solid core speaker cables and was quite pleased. A long-time Vandersteen dealer showed me the cables and told me that although Richard didn't publicly endorse cables these were the ones he often used. Amazingly,...
What has your audiophile experience taught you about yourself?
Don_c55"That 95% of all audiophiles are not rational, and unscientific fools!"Thats what you learned about yourself???
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
An elegant song won't hold up longWhen the palace falls and the parlour's goneWe all must leave but it's not the endWe'll meet again at the festival of friends.Smiles and laughter and pleasant timesThere's love in the world but it's hard to findI'...
Tube Phono Stage with balls, and slam!!
I have the new Audio Research Ref Phono 3. I've been amazed at the punch, slam, speed it delivers. By far the best phono preamp that they have made- (I haven't heard the Ref 10) which is saying something.
"Stairway To Heaven" Plagarism court case
Interestingly, I had created a random Spotify "radio" channel just a couple days ago and Taurus came on. I immediately thought to myself- what a Stairway to Heaven rip off. (I’d never heard it before). Then I thought- I wonder which one came first...
Are audiophiles still out of their minds?
I totally understand both sides of the cable argument. For years I was very judicious with regard to how much I spent on cables and power cords. As the quality of my system improved the more noticeable the changes in cabling became. One year at th...
John Martyn
I own virtually all of John Martyn's albums and was fortunate enough to see him play live a couple of times. I will buy the Solid Air reissue when it is released- it should sound great! Check out One World if you get the chance.
Best Rock Album of 2016
I think Ray Lamontagne's Ouroboros is outstanding. It's an actual album not just a collection of songs.
Power cables for PassLabs preamp and poweramp
A little food for thought... Frank Dickens, the owner of Silent Source cables is basically on staff with Pass- they voice their equipment with his cables and power cords. I don’t own Pass equipment but I do own Frank’s cables and power cords and c...
We Get Requests info please
I have the Analogue Productions reissue and it's excellent.
Obscure bands
Great stuff...how about The 13th Floor Elevators? Great band out of Austin from long ago- check out the album Easter is Everywhere
Stylus cleaner
The only stylus cleaner I’ve ever used is the Lyra stylus cleaner that came with my cartridge. I keep my records clean and use the stylus cleaner once every session, or so. I use a magnifier occasionally to check the cartridge. While I don’t have ...
Has there been any inexpensive item that enhanced your system's sound?
A lot of great feedback here. For me, the best "inexpensive" tweak that I made was buying Solid Tech Feet of Silence. They were recommended to me by a high end audio dealer who actually didn't carry them. He said they will have virtually the same ...
Audio Research is launching new products, "The Foundation Series"
... and sometimes the BIG CORPS actually have more resources to put towards R&D, materials and quality control and actually deliver a superior product. If the GS 150, and Ref Phono 3 are any indication of ARC’s focus on the "bottom line" I’d b...
"Breakfast In America"...a lost cause?
I agree, the album does have a compressed tone to it- especially the drum production. Makes me wonder if that was the sound they were going for? I always feel like there is more potential there for that record.
