Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I found this post over on the vinylengine forums by Manfred/lini. https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=90612 Re: Audio-technica AT120Eaby lini » 19 Oct 2016 18:48Alan: It belongs to a special line of AT120 family m...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
thank you everyone ( @nandric  @chakster  @rauliruegas  @timeltel  ) your cumulative knowledge is amazing.  In my 6months of watching yahoo auctions I don't think I've yet to see a Signet appear (re-imported back into Japan). I guess the best pla...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Halcro. how is the signet TK-7Lca different from the audio technica of the same generation?  Is the body the same as an AT120ea/AT150ea for example? There is not a lot of information about them over on vinylengine.  But I could determine that t...
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
I just want to comment that before we get too convinced about this "boron shortage", the comment from jcarr I referenced above was explicitly that Namiki (probable primary supplier for Jico) has run out of their stock of tubular boron cantilevers....
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
dear nandric,I wasn’t doubting your comment about jonathan carr saying he does not like to use sapphire cantilevers. I was just more curious what he found out in his experiments/experience that helped him form that opinion.
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
@rauliruegas @lewm sorry I should have been more clear. I understand that sapphire and ruby are the same material (outside of some trace elements of chromium to give the red color). Jico uses sapphire and ruby to differentiate between a tapered...
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
Dear Nandric, apologizes for not catching your meaning. At least my search probably explains why Jico had to switch from boron/SAS to sapphire/SAS. It might be the simple case that they get their cantilever/stylus from Namiki, Namiki has run out of...
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
@nandric   I did a search of jcarr and sapphire and could not find the comments you are referring to. I just found his mentioning of Namiki running out of boron cantilevers so they could no longer supply their stylus mounted on boron to manufactur...
Jico SAS vs Neo-SAS(S) vs Neo-SAS(R)
Hi HalcroThank you for this report. I was wondering about the Sapphire vs Ruby and how it compared to the original boron. Really glad to hear from your report that the neo-SAS is just as good as the original boron-SAS. I guess the ruby might give ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@lewm, @chakster I understand and I am just comparing to what I have ownership experience with which is much less than others here (denon DL110, DL301ii, AT15Sa and a Grado black from my postgraduate study days). But I lived with various DL110 for...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
My Jico neo-sas (sapphire) cartridge for my victor Z1Eb arrived tonight. Only have about 4hours in now but I am loving it. It wasn’t as difficult to setup as my AT15Sa (but it did need some azimuth adjustment, luckily my MA505 can do that). SRA/VT...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I would also believe that with 35+ year old cartridges, and the fact that the Victor/JVC Z1 and X1 were consumer products, I would assume that normal production variability and variable aging would more likely explain why some Victor/JVC X2/X1II m...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
chakster, hymanroath, are both of you referring to your experience with the Jico DT-X1E/II eliptical (orange) or Jico DT-X1/II shibata (clear)? I would get the shibata if I plan to try an X1mkII body.https://shop.jico.co.jp/products/detail.php?code...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi everyoneThere were three different X1II, but the one I liked went fast (buy now 20,000¥ about $200) and it had headshell and probably an original berillium shibata stylus. One is 22,800¥ with headshell and newish jico X1eII stylus. Last one is 9...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
My audio Technica AT15Sa arrived last night and it looks in great shape. I inspected the stylus as best as I could with a 40x loope and it's definitely a shibata shape but might be showing some shiny areas which could indicate it's heavily worn. I...
