After the thrill is gone @joey_v Agree 100% - I have tried many different high end speakers and have found my holy grail with the Magico A5's paired with a B&W DB3 surrounded by tubes.
$25k speakers, are we there yet? @bigkidz - you're on, I travel to the big apple about twice a year
$25k speakers, are we there yet? @bigkidz Thanks for the compliment!? I am a big A5 fan. They were designed to compete with more expensive speakers and after listening to the Wilson line am convinced they can hold their own against the next couple of price points. Also, I sold m...
$25k speakers, are we there yet? I actually backed into my Magico A5's as I knew my VPI/Mac setup was not going anywhere. Started with the A3's after numerous attempts at speaker nirvana and quickly upgraded after listening to the A5's. Paired with a B&W DB2 sub side firing f...
Do you consider cables to be a "component" of your system? I said separating them by type (power, interconnects, phono, cat5, speaker). The induction issue was caused by IC's on top of power cables, exactly what I am avoiding.
Do you consider cables to be a "component" of your system? Quality cables are table stakes. The more important aspect of cabling for me is organizing them by type and running them together. For my system, this has increased fidelity and satisfied my OCD at the same time.
“House” Character of Popular $20-$30k Speakers I drive my A5's with Mac tube pre and power and believe the warmth of the tubes provides a complementary soul to the Magicos. Bottom rounded out with a B&W DB3 placed behind my rig, fring to the side walls. Think PhilZone.
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers? For me, a CPA, I allocated half of my system budget on speakers and half on everything else. That said, I have cycled through five pairs of high end speakers over the past seven years to find the best fit. Side note, all bought used except one pai...
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer @davidclarke Great story - best post of the thread! Thank you so much for sharing. To my mind a system develops a personality over the years much like a treasured car or watch. The more I listen to my C2300/MC275 through Magico A5’s the more I ...
Bluesound Node2 with outboard DAC I use multiple Node2i's and run my main system through a McIntosh MCD500 (also plays CD's and SACD's). Sophisticated DAC in the that the MCD500 utilizes the ESS Sabre Reference 8-channel D/A converter in Stereo Quad Balanced mode. This basically m...
Short list of musical subwoofers moved from rel to b&w and never looked back / expensive but worth it
How do you know when a stereo sounds good? @bishop148 - When you want to turn the volume up. +1 - to paraphrase Jerry, if it sounds good it will sound better loud
Magico A5 or Sonus faber SERAFINO TRADITION or Harbeth 40.3 XD I have owned SF Olympica III's powered by a Mac MA6900. Harbeth Super HL5 Plus powered by same and currently own Magico A5's powered by MacIntosh MC275 Mk V with a C2300 preamp. I also have a B&W DB3D behind my rack firing to the side walls (t...
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs? As stated by many, the room is the key. For mine, Magico A5's and a B&W DB3D placed behind the rack with each driver pointed at the side walls provide the best sound. Power is tube pre and amp. Sourced with VPI Aries and the experience continu...
Why the hate for mcintosh amps? Now, I have no problem with this if that is important to you, which is why I asked if you are an interior designer. I would expect them to care very much about the looks, perhaps even beyond the SQ a piece of equipment delivers. I am sure that tho... |
