Gallo reference /TAS vs Me
Another vote for facing the woofers in.
Gallo reference /TAS vs Me
Romad,How did you like them with the VAC 30/30? Was 32 watts enough to drive them effectively? If so, I'd bet that was a fantastic combination.Jeff
Jungson or DK Design: good with Quad 989's?
I agree with Newbee on his original assessment that the dynamics issue probably lies with the Quad's, not the amplifier. The Quad's are exceptional speakers; however, their few deficiencies are well docuemented. Limited dynamics, as most people de...
Equipment that has made you 'stop' looking?
Wadia 850 and Cary 805c.
Tubes and microphonics
If you hit stop on your CD player during a loud passage, and your speakers seem to ring for an instant before they go quiet, your tubes are microphonic. It's usually very obvious.Jeff
What Happens When You Die?
Mine will probably end up for sale on a shelf at the thrift store. The first person to recognize it will have a very good day!
After Quad ESL's?
I had my Quad ESL-63's for 7 years. I enjoyed every minute with them.I recently upgraded to a pair of Gallo Reference 3's. If you can stretch your budget, they are worth an audition. They compete with the best of the best in the imaging category. ...
Gallo Ref III Amps/impressions
Anyone have the SA amp yet? Is it available, or are we still waiting? Last I heard, March was the date. Anyone know any different? When I first bought these speakers, I thought I would need it. Now that mine are broken in, I'm not so sure. They are...
gallo ref3 with the golden ear awards?
The longer I own 'em, the more I love 'em. I continue to listen to reference models from other manufaturers. These match or better their performance every time, typically at a fraction of the price.Anything this riduculously good at such a low pri...
Schweikert VR4-Jr vs. Gallo Reference 3 with SA
It has been a long time since I have listened to Electrocompaniet. From what I remember, it sounds very smooth for solid state. I am sure it would make an excellent match to either speaker.Congratulations on your choice. I'm sure you would be very...
Schweikert VR4-Jr vs. Gallo Reference 3 with SA
I auditioned both extensively before purchase. I ended up purchasing the Gallo Ref III's. Much like you, pricing was not a factor in this choice. It is not easy to explain the differences between these speakers. The VR4-Jr's sounded heavy and somew...
Amp for Gallo Reference 3a's?
I am using Cary 805C's, and the combination works great. While this may be a little out of you price range, I would suggest trying to find a used pair of SLM-100's. I had a pair these before upgrading to 805C's, and they were really nice. Also, a u...
Gallo reference /TAS vs Me
Tlerpan1,The Gallos require some set-up experimentation for best results. I ended up with the woofers facing each other and the speakers toed-in to nearly directly face the listing position. This position puts the image height at about 5' to 6', w...
VR-4jr or Gallo Nucleus Reference 3
Zog,What's your short list? Just curious. Thanks,Jeff
VR-4jr or Gallo Nucleus Reference 3
I don't think the Ref 3s necessarily require a lot of wattage as I am perfectly content with 50 watts. I do think that large scale classical music sometimes requires a lot of wattage. The Gallos sound great with 50 watts for the kind of music I li...
