Paradigm Persona series The major problem with the Persona is just plain physics. I’ve always said they should’ve used the 4" mid from the center channel with the rest of the lineup instead of the 7" midrange.A 2.4KHz crossover with a 7" driver is just too high, and will...
Revel Ultima Studio 2?? Compared to the Revel PerformaBe they have less "air" due to the tweeter's off-axis response brick walling past 8KHz. It's going to be a little dark for people who prefer a brighter speaker.
LS50 Wireless fail, or is old gear that good? 2-way concentrics have technical issues with doppler effect, but I’m not sure comparing it to an electrostatic panel with absolute insanely bad frequency response, decay, and dispersion measurements is a good basis for that judgment. It sounds lik...
Genelec SAM active studio monitors for home use Sorry he's a better link:https://www.princeton.edu/3D3A/Directivity/Genelec%208351A/You can see the vertical directivity of the Genelec is crazy good. Speaker height won't be as sensitive as many speakers.
Genelec SAM active studio monitors for home use @gostahttps://www.princeton.edu/3D3A/Directivity/Genelec%208351A/images/Plots/Horizontal/Genelec%208351A%2....A lot of nearfield monitors do have more limited dispersion but if you look at the Genelec The Ones lineup like the 8351 you can see the ...
Is the NHT xd System worth buying today? @keithtexas Yes, I’ve owned both the active and the passive version (built by Selah) actually. I didn’t think the active version sounded much better. As far as actives, my mains are Genelec 8351s. I have no problems with actives in general, I just ...
Usher Audio BE-718 or Kef LS50 The Usher BE-718 only retailed for $1300/pair in Taiwan, it was only boosted to $3000 for the US Market. Secondly they went through a revision a couple years ago, and switched to a metal-carbon alloy tweeter called the Usher BE-718 DMD, once it be...
Horns: Why don't they image well? Anytime you use a giant waveguide to spread high frequencies you are trading off a large soundstage (flat power response) with less precise imaging (since the highs are getting stretched over a wider area).
Is the NHT xd System worth buying today? Half isn’t a great price considering I’ve seen them go for as low as $1200 for a 2.1 set on ebay, and $1500ish on Audiogon, with the XDA amps.I wouldn’t pay $3000 for it today. First of all NHT ended up selling upgraded versions of the monitors (M...
Best bookshelf speakers The Ascend Ascoustics Sierra 1 should fit your bill. A warm sounding soft dome speaker with very extended bass response. Audioholics reviewed it favorably in a speaker shootout some years ago.Used pair should go for around $500 or so.
Revel F228BE @4425 If you look at mail order brands, I think Salk and Ascend products are better at the same price range compared to Revel, at least acoustically. Visually might be a different issue (since mail order brands tend to be rectangular boxes).
Revel F228BE Revel also used to make their own drivers, but now they use SB Acoustics Satori drivers. Which to me makes it interesting because now it's possible to DIY a Revel clone.
Best speakers for $300/pr @invictus005 But a pair is actually $700...
Speaker Recommendation: 20K range Revel PerformaBe have the best waveguide by far, and will sound the largest in soundscape and lead in clarity in terms of vocals. I don’t find the bass or highs with it necessarily the most resolving, and part of the trade-off of that ultra-wide d...
Up grade speaker cross over I think an easier solution would just be to get a Dirac Live processor. |
