High End Isolation - HRS, SRA, Active platforms
Be careful, there isn't a "one size fits all" isolation solution. It is sort of like asking - "what's the best food?". Depends upon what your system needs and what you have a taste for. My preferred "cost no object" strategy is to get the room / e...
Help What Say You - Amp choices
For what it is worth, if you go with the Nola's you might want to ask some very specific questions about long term parts availability & parts pricing. I bought some Alon's on agon that were damaged by DHL and poor packaging. When I went to do ...
Intergrateds: BAT's VK-300X /SE or Simaudio i-7
Sally - Sold it. Dislike is too strong, I think it is a good unit, I just wanted something that leaned a little bit more toward musicality. Another person with different room/ speakers/personal taste/ etc. might like the SE better.
the next step--20 amp circuit
I like overkill on the conductor size from cb or fuse panel to receptacle, so it is 10/3 solid copper at my house. Really just do it for minimum ground circuit resistance and stereo system sourced electrical noise considerations, can't say that I ...
Intergrateds: BAT's VK-300X /SE or Simaudio i-7
I had the VK-300X/SE. Depending on your tastes and system it may be just what you want. For me & my system, the Bat was strong on detail but a little bit short on musicality. I have since thought that if I had gotten the tube version but not t...
Vandersteen 5a vs. B&W 802D vs. Maggie 3.6 vs.?
For what it is worth, same music (mostly rock), similar priorities (Musicality good, brightness bad), also an old fart, bought 5a's a couple years ago & am very happy with the choice.
Manufacturers don't get it. make tubes visible.
That subtle glow under the cover, near and present but not quite available suggestion of firm warmth and smooth roundness, thats why they do it. Else, with some equipment, if you just see them things flung out at you its Holy Moly go put something...
New VPI
Smells a lot like a new fad to keep people spending.
the paradox of accurate speakers
Another wrench is that inaccuracy is inherent to recording as well as play back. If you had an accurate speaker you wouldn't really have a certain way to know it, & you might really want the speaker that exagerated what the recording diminishe...
How isolated is your hi-fi?
Your way works for me. Other thing is that many of us are multi-tasking at heart.
ac cables falling out of IEC inlets on amps
Elizabeth - Desoldering aids (copper braid, etc.) mean never having to say you are sorry.
ac cables falling out of IEC inlets on amps
I'd fix the connection right, either by finding a correct plug-socket fit or elinimating the connectors all together and soldering things permanent. Putting in globs of goop , tape, whatever, to fill up space is a good way to end up with a hot joi...
Cable angst and Vandersteen 2 ce signature
I think you might prefer just plain old copper wire to what you've got now, no shot at anything just seems like you might be a bit down on detail with the combination you described. It is a cheap test and you can see if the magnitude of difference...
Compromises (recording quality)
Sugar coating should be left in the hands of the recording engineer :).
Ugliest Speakers???
Alon (Nola), and if you take one apart you find that ugly goes all the way through.
