What power cord are you using on your Vandy 5A's Monk - Blind test, or did you know which cables you were listening to?
What power cord are you using on your Vandy 5A's Stock on the left, stock + long walmart special extension cord on the right, can't detect any difference this makes to sound.
Why Tube Pre-SS amp over SS Pre- Tube amp? I think the original rational, at least sometimes, was $'s. Now with very good high power tube amps available for less than insane cost (Rogue, used Bat, etc.) I'm not sure that the original rational is valid. Imho.
Review: Musical Fidelity X-RAY CD Player Sounds interesting. Do you know if the warranty is still only 1 year?
Sonic differences between Nottingham & VPI's TT's I owned and enjoyed the spacedeck but ended up being happier with a VPI Aries. But it was more of an arm thing than a table thing, the spacearm I had was a a quirky and persnickety device to live with (imho, others differ in their experience). The...
Today's Transport War: Significant Differences? Seandtaylor99 - Thanks for the link, interesting read.
Today's Transport War: Significant Differences? I've yet to see either camp come up with any meaningful data that would justify my $'s (i.e., if you can't measure it on the back side of a d/a converter then I doubt if you can hear it). Something I think audiophiles overlook is that digital data...
Cartridge compliance vs tonearm effective mass Not an answer to your question, but a for what it is worth. After going through several well rated cartridges for an extended period of time, my two favorites were the two with a significant compliance mismatch on paper. Looking at your list above...
ground loop questions Jaf2290 - Plugging components into a common receptacle is a good way to minimize the chance of a ground loop, what you are trying to avoid is a difference in impedance to ground between two components. This is also why a heavy gauge ground conduct...
Same manufacturer for pre & amp? One thing you sometimes get by keeping it in the family, is a lot of good experience from the manufacturer or dealer about system synergy with other cables/speakers/ sources/Nos tubes/ etc. This can really ease your way, assuming taste & syste...
The proverbial "giant killer" When you consider how quickly you get into diminishing gains in this hobby, and when you figure out that satisfaction is typically much more about personal preference than any other factor, giant killers become more abundant than actual giants. It...
How to best isolate TT from vibration? After trying several changes to mass loading of platforms, mass loading of floor, isoltaors and etc. (some success but not SUCCESS). My final solution was 30 foot long interconnects to get the turntable in a more optimal location. Would have done ...
Digital Cable Choice; how critical is it? Nsgarch - Just work to date for a recording device. The one o these days plan is to get the meaningful measurables on my audio system recorded to hard disc for reference and troubleshooting, and then too start digging into things like does the dc ...
Digital Cable Choice; how critical is it? Nsgarch - fair question, but my better angel is telling me to just give up, take my toys and go home. If anybody is interested and has a fairly fast internet connection an insight into what is possible to take audiophile concerns (ac line effect, ...
Digital Cable Choice; how critical is it? Oh forgot something I thought might be useful. Signal recording and analysis tools are getting reasonable in cost, very powerful and somewhat user friendly, certainly user friendly enough for a lot of serious audiophiles. For around $3000 you can ... |
