Tube Dac to Tube pre?
I enjoyed a tube dac to a SS preamp to a either a SS or tube amp. Schubert is very right about the additional variables. I like having somethings I can't easily change in my systems.
the quest for the best--within limits
I got to agree with Dover. There are some posters of these types of inquiries are just plain lazy. How many Oppo BDP-95 questions do you see that have been addressed before. A search through the A'gon archives or using their favorite search engine...
Would you trust a local dealer to help you put
Maybe. If I got some good word of mouth feedback from other audio buffs in the area I'd go talk to the local dealer. It would also depend on the vibe I got when walking into the dealer. Most of the time I've seen some of what Elizabeth details. Th...
Do you leave your platter spinning while switching
With my Thorens TD 125 Mk 2 I leave the platter spinning while making the switch. With my Concept 2QD DD turntable I have to make the switch while the platter is stopped.
Audio Prism or Enacom line filters
To anyone who has used or is using Enacom AC line filters.Have you ever put large ferrite cores on them? What benefit does this provide? I saw a listing where someone had Enacom AC line filters and put these rather large ferrite cores on them. I c...
How good are Japanese made tubes ?
I've had 12AU7 tubes made in Japan by Toshiba for Hewlett Packard. They were awesome sounding and very close in performance (at least in my gear/system) to more expensive NOS Raytheon Black Plate 12AU7 tubes. If you really want to see interest for ...
Best interconnect between pre-amp and CD player??
Here is part of SunnyJim's issues. He's got a nice system to me and I feel for the guy. Seems like he's been fighting the good fight for some time and making little headway.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1342820257&openflup&...
Cleaning fluid on the cheep
I follow this guy's formula.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNLGo5K5m_M3/4 distilled water, 1/4 91% pure rubbing alcohol, a little dishwasher rinsing agent at the bottom of the squirt bottle.
Best interconnect between pre-amp and CD player??
Morning SunnyjimYou pose a very good question(s). Without trial and error it is often very difficult to choose which ICs to use. Before I would just buy one brand of ICs and use it in every place. This way I would have everything all equal. Now fr...
Need a heavy duty receptacle
Hi Markpao For the sagging of the power cord on the female end at the component. The way I handled it was I wrapped some electrical tape around the female end before plugging it in. That in addition to propping up the cables really helped with the...
Need a heavy duty receptacle
Hey MarkpaoI can't find the thread but there was an A'gon member here who used fishing line to help support his beefier power cords. Another gent I met used really thick pipe insulation to help support his power cords so they wouldn't slip from th...
Class A amps or Class D??: Which sounds better??
I'd love to hear the NCore class D amps. I had a Hypex based class D amp as well as the lower powered Red Dragon M100 monoblocks and I just found I enjoyed Class A and Class AB amps more. The Class D amps I had seemed to lack definition and the mu...
when to replace isoclean fuse for preamp
Good stuff. I thought with fuses you just remove it every year to clean the contacts if you have a dusty room or your amp/preamp can accumulate dust in there. That and the only time you replace it is when it is blown.
Power of McCormack DNA .5 vs DNA 125
Hi BjueYes the McCormack DNA-1 was conservatively rated @ 150 watts into 8 ohms at first. Later it was found that it was rated @ 185 watts into 8 ohms. I saw the difference in the DNA-1 manuals I was able to retrieve. Then I contacted SMc Audio to...
