Importance of warm up. I hope this helps someone
Cassettes seem to me have at least one advantage over CDs for the car: they are less sensitive to the kind of rough handling that may occur when ones is doing something else -- like driving! I try to stick to copied CDs for the car, for this reaso...
Discovering New Music.....
Thanks Ray, I'll look for Kasey's new one. If you like her sort of "little girl" delivery, do try Julie Miller, "Broken Things," if you've not already. jmd
Discovering New Music.....
If you don't know Cowboy Junkies, definitely worth a spin, as Qdrone says. I might start with Caution Horses, but lots of nice stuff, like Miles from Our Home (but note the music runs to a fairly homogenous sound, across discs).Other female vocals...
Discovering New Music.....
If you tend to female vocals with a bit of country/americana, I strongly suggest Shannon McNally, "Geronimo," and "North American Ghost Music." Compares favorably with the recent best of people like Lucinda Williams, Emmylou, and Julie Miller (her...
Jolida JD 100 PC suggestions
Audiofeil: Well, since you mention it . . . In addition to the Jolida, I use an Odessey Stratos Dual Mono Extreme, Marsh 2000b pre, and am in the process of putting together North Creek Eskas (listening room = living room; Eskas designed for near ...
Jolida JD 100 PC suggestions
Thanks, folks. All good suggestions; I'll probably try first whatever comes up reasonably, used.Gooddomino: "I like my Signal Audio Magic Digital PC." means the digital cable from Frank's "Signal Cable"? I have his SC and ICs already, like the SCs...
Vince Welnick R.I. P.
Any 74 partisans out there? 45 minutes of Playin', Seattle 74? Louisville 74?I think all of the band's phases have their charms. Toronto 77, Donna and all. And it's a hard--hearted person who can despise Donna on "You Ain't Woman Enough" from Madi...
Feedback wanted from Jolida JD100A owners
If you go for the Jolida, the tubes make readily audible differences, as others have said. My "level 1" modded unit improved a lot with cyro'd tubes from ATSI (a very helpful provider). See other threads for discussion.--jmd

Is the Jolida jd 100 as good as the dealers claim?
My JD 100 transport is not "dead quiet." Audible "chatter" -- more with some discs than others. Jolida says expect some of this, esp.if disc is warped. Anyone else have this experience?Re tubes, I recently followed a suggestion of Kehut on nanothe...
Review: Marsh Sound Design P-2000t Tube preamp
i have the 2000b. i've no reliability issues so far (2nd owner from 6/2005), and I'm not displeased with the sound, but you are right on about build quality: if that is important to you,it might make sense to consider other units. --jmd

BB King...for a newbie
On the topic of must have cuts:"Why I Sing the Blues"
Anyone have experience with "Signal Cable" Cables?
I'd second the above remark (Boa2's) to the effect that Signal Cable is a good direction to go for "cable skeptics," who aren't likely to invest in high end cables. I was such a person, and SC double run speaker wire made for an *obvious* improveme...
Jolida CDP question
One part of Sfrounds' description stuck out for me: "sounds like a stereo system." I have the Jolida w/ Level 1 mods, and although other pieces may be to blame, I've been complaining that my system "shreiks mechanical reproduction of music." (Made...
