Suggestions for 'filling the port' of bass reflex George Short and North Creek appears to favor the approach suggested by Samujohn: he shipped straws with the Eska kit I purchased (rear ported). I've not compared the straws with other materials, tho. John
Best Cd Player under $4000? Rich's suggestions are well worth considering. At least, I wish I'd thought more about along those lines last summer, when looking for a CDP at Erasto's pricepoint. I ended up with a redbook only CDP, and now have no uncomplicated path to a PC bas...
Best Cd Player under $4000? I took Jaybo to mean speaker placement, not REplacement, the implication being that this would result in more audible differences than many CDP upgrades you might consider. This might say a lot about both speaker placement and CDPs. John
Audiophile grade country Seconding Lyle Lovett for good recordings. IMO, also Gillian Welch, and the Hank Williams tribute "Timeless."John
Music Server with no DAC? Tvad and others: Any thoughts yet on the "future proof" PS Audio PefectWave DAC? Seems like an alternative to the Transporter worth considering. Certainly an unnerving time to invest in digital sources . . . . John
Salamander Quality Seconding Markphd: Worth checking with some local woodworkers. They don't work cheap -- nor should they -- but 1500 is a bit of coin, and might find you approaching a custom piece you'd prefer to the mass market stuff. John
Sistrum and Maple I talked to StarSounds when buying Audiopoints for a maple rack I was building. We chatted a bit about the Sistrum, and my impression was that they did not think wood a good approach to shelving. J
Townes Van Zandt fans? Cleaneduphippy: I've not heard the whole disc yet, but I heard a few cuts on NPR, and I fear I'm with Rich here; I was not drawn in, tho to be fair, I've not liked what of SE's recent stuff I've heard. Please do let us know what you think; I'd be ...
Wither Jimmy Page? Viridian:Different strokes, I guess: while I don't like the Plant-Krause collaboration, I blame it on Plant: I'd much rather listen the Krause than Zep.John
jazz/blues piano players Red Garland.Jazz with strongly bloozy roots, I's say. Very nice work on on the Miles 5 "In" sessions, and also as a leader (see esp. "Groovy"). Perhaps unwisely, I prefer him to Peterson. Probably not in the same category as Evans -- who is? -- bu...
Mellencamp on Music Business Interesting comments. I guess I think this is a pretty hopeful time for American popular music. Lot's of mass-market junk (as always, I assume), but lots of smaller label stuff that is really good (the music more often than the recordings, alas).J

Ever feel like we are going nowhere here? Is Audiogon any different in this regard than other fields of inquiry? -- lots of repetition, a good bit of relatively minor insight and innovation, and the occasional striking insight and innovation. If this is a fair description of what goes on h...
Simple System for a Super Senior? Underwood has an April Music one box system that Walter is offering with Epos speakers for two grand. No experience of it , but looks intriguing. might be worth giving Walter a call.Nice to hear about you and your father.:)John http://www.underwoo...
best artists in the last 15 years Bongofury: If you like Earle, and haven't already, try Hayes Carll, "Trouble in Mind." Like the earlier Earle, maybe better.John |
