Is it caused by the transport or the dac?
Take the unit back to the dealer and see if the problem occurs with other gear. Perhaps the transport is faulty.
Is the BIX table extint?
Here's the note from Doc at Bottlehead regarding the Bix:"We've been considering for a couple of months now our handling of the BIX turntable from DIY Hi Fi Supply. A drop shipped kit product which we never see before it reaches the customer has t...
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
Thanks for the "heads up". I recently purchased one of the Horace Silver recordings, but was not aware of the scope of this RVG collection!
Best Preamp for Wright 3.5's under $1000-used
I'd suggest a Bottlehead Foreplay. They have just introduced version III of this preamp. If you're not up to building a kit, watch the ads here for a used Version II, since many people may be upgrading to the new version. Another preamp that I've ...
QUAD 99 CDP and Wright 3.5's output question
When I had the passive preamp, I was running an AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 CD player that has provisions for adjusting the output voltage as high as 5.0 volts, which worked well with the passive pre. The normal setting for this player is 2.5 volts, and t...
QUAD 99 CDP and Wright 3.5's output question
I have a pair of Wright 3.5's also. With your 103 db efficiency horn speakers you should be fine. However, I used to use a passive preamp and have found that (in my system) the Wright amps do better when driven with an active preamp. A lot will de...
what speakers for 4k or less new or used
Check out the offerings from Green Mountain Audio. The sound of the Callisto is stunning.
Best monitors under $5,000/system combos
I can't recommend a particular amp, but you should strongly consider the Green Mountain Audio "Callisto" speakers (around $2300/pair). A good tube amp would make for a stunning combination.
What cd player should I buy?
My suggestion is to determine a price range, and then start reading everything you can about players in that range. You will eventually find a small handful of players that appeal to you (based on what you've read). If you're lucky, you'll be able...
How important are transports?
I have been trying to decide on a transport for my system and have auditioned several transports in my system recently. I currently have a CAL Delta, a Sony DVP S7000, a CEC TL5100Z, and a Vecteur D2. Each of these units sounds a little different ...
How to remove rubber feet from CAL Alpha?
Leave them on and place the cones as close as you can to the corners. You could try placing the cones pointed up. Or, carefully disassemble the player to get at the feet from the inside.
Do folks use contact enhancing liquids with sucess

know of a great audio test CD?
"The Ultimate Demonstration Disc" from Chesky Records is also good.
Isolation Platforms...worthwhile?
I'd suggest you start searching the "Tweakers Asylum" at audioasylum.com and look into the varieties of DIY isolation. There's no sense spending hundreds of dollars on platforms when you can do so much on your own.jd
Upgrades to Cal Audio Delta Transport
I purchased a Delta a few months ago and was wondering the same thing. I read through all of the archives at Audio Asylum pertaining to this transport and could find no information about modding it. I believe others have also asked the same questi...
