how to fix volume/balance on Tandberg 2080
Thanks for the help. In a few days, I should be able to pull the unit from what it is doing now and make that happen. And, I may even try it myself, stopping if it looks as though trouble looms.
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I am now in the twentieth year of using and enjoying a Tandberg 2080 receiver. It was my first entry into upscale audio at the time with a cost of about $1000. I use it for all TV sound, an audio cassette deck, and CD. It now drives the Mag MMGs. ...
Better magazine, Stereophile or Absolute Sound
I subscribed to AS for nearly two decades and then left as professional demands absorbed my avocational time. Stereophile was a newstand purchase, but a frequent one, over the same interval. I always enjoyed JGH and was always puzzled at HP's nega...
How to upgrade B&W Matrix Series 2
The 801 upgrades from North Creek may be an alternative. They are around $1600 and the web site, as one would expect, certainly makes them seem attractive. I wonder if anyone has any experience with them. Thanks again for the comments.
How to upgrade B&W Matrix Series 2
Those are good refinements to my query. I do like accuarcy in speakers and it is true the 801's let me know what is in front of them. I would not like to give up the bass which i now there. Rock is not my music but classical, jazz, and good vocal ...
Best On-Line source for SACD's
Try Accoustic Sounds at accousticsounds.com. The selection is large, including some superb recordings. The site can be a little slow to navigate in searching the selections, but it is the best I have found. The service has been very good, either b...
difference between Sony SCD 1 and SCD 777ES
Upon continued navigating from the 'gon home page, I found a review of the 777ES which notes the differences from the SCD-1. Type in SCD 777ES in the search box on the home page and navigate through to the research this item choice which appears b...
Is there such a thing as a good analogue turntable
I will check on all of the suggestions made. Thanks much for the help.
Anything wrong with Treshold "T" series??
I have not listened to the T series, but own the Threshold S300 and the S550E. Both are excellent, with the latter wining out in just sheer power and room and better defined and deeper low-end.
What speakers for an old Nakamichi receiver
I think my daughter has the same feeling about her Nak. I will also be sensitive to the speaker load problem raised by Audiokinesis. I think the entry-level Maggies present a 4-ohm load and would be acceptable if they worked on all other counts. T...
What speakers for an old Nakamichi receiver
All of your responses show why Audiogon is the classiest site in the category. I am passing all of these along as well as those which may follow. She really likes the Nak and it is accompanied by a Nak CD changer, though I do not know the model nu...
Whats the deal with CD players?
Previous comments concerning cables, component identities, etc. are all on target. Another which warrants attention is the way A/B comparisons are made. My experience is that short A/B comparisons are not revealing of very much. If you have the ch...
Safe removal of tweeter grill on B&W 801 Series 2
Thanks. The tweeter grill remains securely in place and will stay that way.
Safe removal of tweeter grill on B&W 801 Series 2
I have since been told by a former dealer that the grill is not meant to come off routinely. So, if others are interested, his advice is don't do it.
Any experience with Northcreek crossover for B&W?
Thanks for the helpful comments. My NC mod purchase will move rather slowly but I will certainly share reactions when it takes place.
