Your greatest high end audio purchase!!!
These posts caused me to reflect on my audiophile journey.  I think my most exciting purchase was my first (you never forget your first) receiver,  the Concord CR-400 AM/FM "Quadrophonic" receiver from the late 70s.  I loved the blue and green dis...
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
So here is an update. I am a bargain/cheap/value oriented audiophile (pick one) and just could not get there on the cost of the ATCs and the associated equipment John recommended. I have heard such great things about the Arendal speakers that I am...
ATC SCM40
I recently posted my experience auditioning the active version of these speakers and loved them.  John Rutan at Audio Connection in Verona, NJ has both the active and passive versions on the floor.  I think the actives sound much better, but they ...
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
So I did go down to Audio Connection today with my Yamaha AVR. I spent about three hours with John trying different options to find the best sound. I guess it is no surprise that the best option is an external DAC and a preamp with HT bypass. Woul...
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
If I read your post correctly, you cancelled an order for speakers because not many people here "love them" Sorry, but I was not clear about this. I cancelled them because I waited for two months and heard nothing from them.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
Since your Yamaha AVR is both preamp and DAC why don’t you bring it with you and have John hook it up to the ATCs? Then you would have a much better idea of what the combination sounds like. That’s what I would do. Brilliant idea. Will be a bit...
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
I heard the Maggies a year or two ago as part of my quest, but did not love them.  I don't think the ATCs need any subs.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
Never mind my question. After more research, I see that my solution is to get a high quality preamp with HT bypass.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
I guessed the response to my proposed use of the Yamaha would be negative.  What about an external streamer with a high quality DAC into the Yamaha (as pre-amp only) and then out via the pre-out XLRs to the speakers?  I would really like to keep t...
Tekton Double Impacts
2psyop, Thanks for the info on your DIs.  Unfortunately that is not what I wanted to hear as I am looking for more forgiving speakers.  Others on this thread have said they think the DIs are forgiving, so I hope that is the case once they are bro...
Tekton Double Impacts
So I pulled the trigger on a pair of Double Impact SEs today (Charcoal).  I have been looking for a speaker upgrade for many months and have thoroughly enjoyed the process, but it was time to make a decision.  I think I listened to over 20 pairs o...
Tidal Connect not showing on iPad
Figured it out.  Under the settings for the iPad (the Settings app, not the Tidal app), navigate down to Tidal and move the slider to "Allow Tidal to Access the Network" Strange I did not need to do the same thing on the iPhone.
Your thoughts on my quest for new speakers
Ihcho, I give you full credit for the choice 😉.  Let this be the first day of your role as an audiophile influencer.
Your thoughts on my quest for new speakers
Well my quest is over! After several weeks of auditioning different speakers, I have made my decision - and I am very happy with it. I listened to speakers from Vandersteen, Harbeth, Totem, Fleetwood, Boenicke, Magico, Amphion, Klipsch, Nola, QLN ...
most beautiful (looking) speakers
I think the Fleetwood Deville speakers are beautiful.
