Tube Test Results JAN MIN for a 6SN7 tube is 50/50, which means throw it away. So, 65/65 means the tube is nearly dead.
Suggestions on used CD Player with Volume Control AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 or Cary 303/300. Don't use the stock tubes, though. Recommend Ediswan CV-2492 for the Tjoeb, and RCA 12BH7a for the Cary.
Good sources for tubes other than Upscale What kind of tubes do you need? Send e-mail.
power cord too short? what now? http://www.powersystemsdirect.com/Panamax/Oxygen_Free_High_Performance_Extension_Cord_P12X10NEMA5-15_335.phpPanamax has a good extension cord.
Buzz/Hum from Cary SLI-80 Should be dead quiet. Make sure transformers are not loose. But be careful to discharge power capacitors before opening the unit, as the voltages are dangerous. Also, call Cary for technical assistance. Good luck.
40hz room mode RPG Modex Corner trap? I'm trying to learn about this stuff, too. So, my comments are those of a seeker, not an expert. I think the Behringer goes between pre-amp and amp, operates in the digital domain, and its output must be converted back to analog. So, it's not the ...
Unusually good power cord for the money? I agree with Fotis_k -- Signal Cable is a good value. Also, sort of agree with Bojack -- don't spend lots of money on power cords (I've been down that road, and parted with good money enroute.) People whose opinions I respect maintain that what's ...
Salk HT3 vs VAS VR4jr Addendum to previous post: Looks like Gallo's amp not suited to HT-3 which crosses over to the woofer at 250Hz.
Salk HT3 vs VAS VR4jr Probably gonna bi-amp 'em, with glass on top and solid state on bottom-end. Maybe use Anthony Gallo's sub amp with room EQ.
The Latest Room Correction Equipment/Trends DEQX operates in the digital domain, so it's less than ideal for those who prefer an analog front-end and don't want to buy a good DAC. Rives PARC is analog, and I believe it corrects in three bands. I'm not sure how TaCT works. I can't see myself...
Salk HT3 vs VAS VR4jr A good buddy owns two pair of VR4jr's, so I'm familiar with the sound. This past Sunday, we spent four hours with Jim Salk listening to a pair of HT-3's and talking about audio. I can report that HT-3's are made with top-flight drivers and crossov...
KT-88/ 90 choices to replace my new stock tubes I second Jeff's recommendation. The Penta Shuggie's are fabulous. Just be sure to request solid plates without holes.
Help Cary Rocket 88 or Primaluna Prologue 5 I believe the Rocket operates in class 'A' and the Prologue in 'AB-1' but you should read the literature on that. The Rocket has balanced and RCA inputs. I haven't heard them side-by-side, but at the same price I'd take the Rocket.
THE LATEST---Gold plated fuses? They might make a difference if they're in the signal path, e.g., in speakers, but in amp or pre-amp they wouldn't make a difference IMHO.Jay
new tube break in I like the Penta Lab KT88SC's. The bass is good and tight. They reveal lots of detail and nuance without ever being harsh or bright. Probably original Tung Sol 6550's are better, but the cost is out of sight. The Penta Lab KT88SC's are my favorite ... |
