Best loudspeaker with coincident/coaxial driver
I am running the TAD CR-1's, but what got me interested and down that road was being smitten by the Evolution One's at last year's RMAF. I am delighted with them, and I suspect the Evolution One would delight, as well. I use a VAC Ren Sig II pream...
How well respected our EAR products
I've owned a lot of EAR products - - guess I resonate with their idea of good sound. Started with the V20 Integrated, added an Acute CD player (closest to vinyl at that time that I had heard), added a 324 phono stage, short flirtation with the 868...
What is the best usb convertor
I use the Berkeley Alpha USB converter and am quite happy with it. I get sound that seems a worthy alternative to my LP rig.
vandersteen Quatro or sonus faber elipsa
I certainly can recommend the Quatros. I used Quatros for a number of years in my 11.5' x 15' room, and I found them to be stellar, only selling them to move on to TAD CR-1's (it took a rather great speaker to displace them). I ran them with a cou...
Stringreen
Glad you tried it. I sure found the PC's to make a clear improvement, and way beyond just the bass, as you noted. Any Vandersteen owner really should try this out, and using your DIY approach makes it affordable. Enjoy!
preventing usb bus overload.
I have operated two Windows 7 based systems with USB HD's and simultaneous USB feed to asynchronous DAC's with no obvious problems, and no sonic compromises that I am aware of. Of course, YMMV, depending upon a whole lot of variables in computer a...
What better to power my 82db Magico Q5
I'm currently using a pair of Merrill Veritas class D amps that I am finding amazing (three weeks in, as my VAC Phi 200 is out for an update). They double down quite comfortably to 2 ohms, and I'd bet they would handle the Q5's with aplomb. From w...
Building the Audio Note Kit 1 SET amp...
The de Capo's are 92 dB, with a 6 ohm minimum impedance - - pretty friendly to tubes. My 35 watt EL34 pp integrated amp can barely crank up on the dial (I wish the speakers had a little less sensitivity!).
New Bookshelf speakers u love 3k to 6k
I find the Reference 3A De Capo's to be very satisfying speakers - - easy to drive, and very alive sounding without the crossover. I've lived with a pair of i's for over 5 years now.I, too, have been very impressed by the Joseph Audio Pulsar's, bu...
Happy users of SPDIF in Lampizator Big 7's?
So, no DoP feed on the PCM connection? It's not too big a of deal for me. Presently I own exactly zero DSD titles, and I really am not feeling it for DSD, in general (too much dough per recording). I am actually pretty encouraged by the PCM that I...
HiDiamond Diamond 3 XLR IC's - Burn-In Time?
I switched to the the HD 3 XLR's in the past year to run 4m from pre to power amp, and 1m from DAC to pre and I find them to be wonderfully detailed and also harmonically full-bodied. But I bought used, so the were likely well broken in before I s...
Vandersteen 5 HP Filter settings for RCA unit
That is pretty bizarre. My RCA filters definitely show just what I posted above, and it seems to completely disagree with what the photo in your referenced ad shows.I also have a set of XLR filters, and they read something entirely different from ...

Totem Mani 2 Sig. vs Dynaudio C1
I too owned the Totem Mani-2's and can vouch for the quality and quantity of bass - - no subwoofer required! They should energize your room just fine.
Looking for Tube Pre-Amp Recommendations
I can highly recommend the VAC Renaissance Signature. There is one on the 'Gon now for $5,500, and it would be worth the stretch, IME. I have used a Mk. II version now for 5 years, and it is the component that stays (even tempted me to try out the...
