Best length for analog cables from dac to preamp?
As an OCD experiment, one weekend, I used an 8 feet cable and a 4 feet cable (Esoteric speaker cables) to see if I can hear the difference when I swapped the cables from left to right. Conclusion, Zero, nada, nothing changed to my ears... Perhaps, ...
ARC LS25 mkII noise level
Resolution:After doing a through noise measurement and consulting with a very qualified tech here in NYC and the head tech at ARC, my LS25 II is indeed within spec. It comes down to my expectation and the fact that the Focal 1027 be's are very sen...
ARC LS25 mkII noise level
Thanks all for your response.I will call ARC tomorrow. I did a voltage check and everything is good. Although I can read schematics and have some tech skills, I can't figure out where in the circuit this noise might be coming from. If the power fi...
Best Integrated w/ Phono-In under $350
For $350 used, I think a Arcam integrated amps are a great value. I used to have an Arcam Alpha8R and it was a great amp for the price.

@ee3: That is what I suspect. I'll check a few more things along with a new set of 6h30 tubes. If that does not do it, I'll send it to ARC for a complete checkup. What amp are you pairing it with and how sensitive is your speakers? My Focal 1027 Be...
ARC LS25 mkII noise level
I did float the ground on the ls25. Also on the power amp. No change. I'll test by disconnecting all sources one by one to see if there is any change.Your setup's noise level is what I would expect. I do think there is something going on here on m...
ARC LS25 mkII noise level
Yes, there are tube dampers on the 2 6h30s. They are the UltraSonic Hal-o dampers. I will work with ARC to resolve this. It might just need some service.@Elizabeth I wish it was 3 feet. 3 meters which is about 10 feet away from my listening seat.I...
ARC LS25 mkII noise level
Yeah, it has been a challenge. This is my first foray into tube gear. Maybe I am used to dead quiet solid state amps.I think the culprit here is the LS25 MKII. The VS60 with a solid state preamp is very quiet. So the LS25 might need repair but I'l...
ARC LS25 mkII adjustment
Did a full voltage check. Had to tweak one of the trimmers a very small amount. The preamp sounds really great.
ARC VS60 bias
Yes. I swapped the tubes from R to L. Measurements remain the same.I want to add that the ARC spec of 0.2mVAC with input shorted is IHF weighted. I don't know if it is A-weighted but most likely it is. If that is the case, then my measurements of ...
ARC VS60 bias
Spoke with ARC. They say the slight hum in the speaker is normal for this amp. However, the published spec states 0.2mVAC with inputs shorted.I checked it out and the left channel shows 0.7mVAC and the right channel shows 0.25mVAC. I'll have to ge...
Tube Amp Hum
My brand new ARC VS60 has what you describe. Same in both channels. I have a feeling this is how it goes but left a message with ARC. I'll see what they have to say. I hope it can be eliminated. My solid state amp was dead silent.
ARC VS60 bias
I have called ARC. Waiting for Calvin to call me back. The efficiency of the speaker is 91db. It's Focal 1027 Be pair. The amp is brand spanking new from a dealer here in the NYC area. Cmalak - are you saying that this amp should be dead quiet in th...
ARC VS60 bias
The buzzing is from the power transformer. As for the hum in the speaker, I think it is because the transformers are so close to the power tubes. The hum is there with nothing connected on the input. I've also tried lifting ground but the hum rema...

I don't know John Rutan but have heard good things about his business. I don't think he's a tech though. All this is what I heard from the previous owner. Not that I don't trust him but I just want to make sure the amp is working properly.Found a ...
