Thinking of buying a solid state amp The new ModWright kWA 150 is a killer for the money. It can be run in stereo or bridged into mono. A solid state amp that will definitely appeal to a tube lover. Dan Wright is great to deal with.
Music Management Software 2009 ?? Efc,I am using Collectorz (http://www.collectorz.com/music/). It works great with digital media and is user friendly. There has been a significant recent upgrade that allows you to interface with their iPhone app. Organizing my vinyl collection wa...
Direct drive/rim drive/idler drive vs. belt drive? Wow, what a great discussion. As a Galibier owner, I can't wait for RMAF to audition the new motor/controller. I tend to agree with the opinion that while each design has its particular set of strengths and weakness (resulting in a signature sound...
Help with final choice of efficient speakers David12,First of all, relax, your choices are well thought out and will compliment the already fine system you've assembled. I have auditioned the Da-RMa's, Coincident, Zu and DeVore's. They are all excellent. So now it's a question of taste and w...
New favorite VINYL Album? Marianne Faithfull's new release "Easy Come, Easy Go". It a double album. She does a number of covers and does multiple duets (my favorite is her duet with Antony). Extremely well recorded. In fact a friend of mine commented on the quality of micr...
My first post, need some opinions about speakers Given your musical preferences, I'd go with the DeVore 9's. They are good, actually make that excellent, with Shindo gear. Daedalus Ooops! The maple block is ~$300...sorry for any confusion.
Daedalus Just wanted to let everyone know that I have found two highly effective 'tweaks' to the Ulysses that work well separately but even better in combination.Lou can make up a layered maple slab that sits between the speaker and the stand. (I also remo...
New Monk vinyl box set on Mosaic I own this set "At the It Club". It's real (vinyl) and it's spectacular! ...Apologies to Seinfeld.
Daedalus Just my 2 pennies...I think that the two recent reviews of Daedalus in Stereo Times and Bound For Sound offer a pretty accurate appraisal of the Daedalus 'house sound'. Obviously, Lou's aesthetic appealed more to the reviewer at Stereo Times. That...
Daedalus I auditioned the DA-RMa and Ulysses at Lou's workshop. Obviously, this was a limited audition in an unfamilar system. For me, the increased refinement and authority were worth the difference in price and I bought the Ulysses.
Explain the asthetics of Punk Bongofury,Thanks for sharing your experiences. Man, that must have been fun. There is great anectdote in the Ramones documentary (referenced above) about their legendary 1976 London show. It is said that only about 20-30 people were at the show bu...
Explain the asthetics of Punk Punk was not an 'asthetic', it was an attitude. An essential punk primer is the Ramones documentary "End of the Century". |
